Is your attire and conduct professional looking?

Is it just my area or are you also experiencing a lack of professional conduct and dress? I'm not only talking about showing a house, whether it's your listing or not, but also at closings? I have been a homeowner since 1966, and everyone was dressed nice and spoke property. Recently, in my area, people are acting like they are at a ball game. Or am I just "old fashioned"?

I think it depends on the area you are in...if agents wear suits here to show properties, they are way overdressed.  Some wear ties, but most wear business casual...dress pants with a button down shirt.

Kenneth, the times they are a changin. You may be overdressed in a suit but not really out-of-place, however, the number of occasions I can think of that call for a tie where I would want to go - well, I can't really think of any.

I've always seen proper dress from the professional side (realtors, mortgage consultants and attorneys) at closings.  For the most part the buyer and/or sell dress down some.  They dont' always come in ties and dresses anymore.

Do you remember when one used to get dressed to go on a plane flight?  Why?  Were we trying to look good for the flight attendants... what was the point in that one?

We try to dress in keeping with our beach lifestyle.  However, your point about professional conduct is very worrisome.

We are at a lake and in Roanoke. In the summer we are in dress shorts but in the city we are in dress slacks and polo shirts or button down. But you are right some of the dress could be improved. We don't have much trouble with conduct.

The broker I do my notaries for wants us in jeans, a nice shirt and nice shoes. We do almost all of our business around our clients' dining room talbes. Dressing up too much would be way too formal. We want our clients to think of us more as a friend coming over to talk and do a little business than an unfamiliar company trying to make a buck.

Kenneth, I agree but then again we are probably both old fashioned. You'll hear many arguments about how you should wear jeans, shorts, and something less than casual attire. I still believe in dressing for success. This doesn't mean a three piece suit, but it doesn't mean wearing jeans either. I wonder why real estate agents are rated below used car salesmen. Maybe it's because used car salesmen wear dress slacks and a shirt with a tie.

Good Post!

Kenneth, I am a jeans guy.  I love them and I have a personal goal of wearing jeans everyday; however, for now I must dress professionally (albeit casual professional).  I do enjoy jeans on Friday.  There is still some professionalism in our industry.

Good post Kenneth. Yes I make sure that my employees and I are wearing proper attire for the work we do. We are a professional company and I expect my employees to dress and conduct themselves appropriately.

Thanks all. I would guess Michael and I ARE a little old fashioned.  But hey, I would rather be faulted for over dressing than under.

I have not owned a pair of jeans since the 1960's.
