Ghosting:  the ceasing of communication with someone without warning.

If you're in real estate, it's just a matter of time until you get ghosted.

A potential client contacts you.  They're in the preliminary stages of their home search.

They don't have an agent (at least that's the claim).

Financing won't be a problem.

They've got questions.

You know the answers, or know where to get them.

Communication is good.  Whether it's email, phone or text, things seem to be going well.

And then....silence.

Multiple attempts, no response to any of them.

What happened?

Did they REALLY have an agent after all and just needed information?

Did they change their minds about buying a home?

Did their computer go belly up?

Did their spam filter go nuts and suddenly blacklist you?

Was there a family emergency?

A major illness?

We'll never know for sure.

Movin' on, I'm not afraid of no ghosts :)

It's a numbers game.

It happens and then sometimes, when you least expect it, the phone rings or an email appears and they are ready.

And hopefully that is the case, but I've found the ones reaching out about new construction often show up later on the county tax rolls with a brand new home (and no agent used to purchase).  Tough to fight the myth that they can get a better deal without an agent.

Good morning Bill,

You are right..it's a numbers game and just keep them coming and they can still preform for you even if it appears the Ghosted you! One never knows..don't take it personally.

I don't take it too personally, just disappointed at the lack of common courtesy when it happens.

Good morning Bill, it happens to all of us and I have to admit that no matter how many times it happens over the years it still bothers me. Just say something even if it's I don't want to work with you or stop contacting me. Common courtesy isn't always so common.

And I'd be fine with anything said, just say something to let me know to close the chapter.

Liz and Bill Spear Common in my industry as well. I find it very uncomfortable - I move too quickly to "Are they OK? Did I do something to offend?"

I think in general, it's not the professional providing the services, but the customer that has the issue.
