The Agony of PompeiiBody casts at Pompeii

Vesuvius and PompeiiPompeii

The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston has on view some paintings, and sculptures of the world's most famous volcano, Vesuvius.  This horrifying event took place on August 24th, 79 A.D. and with one enormous blast the city of Pompeii was covered while people were frozen in time ash while trying to escape.

I've been to Pompeii, the above pictures are of the actual remains of humans that were buried alive and were preserved in the volcanic ash.  Mt. Vesuvius is in the background, the dip is where the eruption took place.  This is one of the most interesting places in Italy to go, the city, what's left of it is amazingly in tact.

The exhibit is on view until June 22 in the Caroline Wiess Law Building.

Cindy, I saw that advertised.  We took a girls trip to Italy when my daughter graduated from high school and Pompeii was one of our favorite stops.  So I wonder if they brought some of the X rated stuff?  My daughter would have been 18 at the time and there were times I wanted to cover her eyes (lol).

Cindy, I took my children to the Leonardo exhibit which they loved. I was planning on going to the Pompeii exhibit this weekend. This was a good reminder for me. Thanks
