Last Sunday night my son called to tell me that his propane tank was empty. He wondered if they’d forgotten to fill it or if somehow fuel was leaking out. I checked the records and saw that it had been nearly two months since the last fuel delivery. (He’s almost always gone, so I do his bookkeeping and keep the bills paid.)
It looked like they’d forgotten, or perhaps misjudged when they needed to check the tank. After all, he had been home for several days over Thanksgiving and had now been home for ten days, with the heat turned up beyond what it takes to keep the pipes from freezing.
He called the company, intending to leave a voice mail asking them to bring fuel in the morning. But no – instead he got a live person. He told them it was fine to wait until morning. He had electric wall heaters so wouldn’t get cold overnight. But the person on the other end of the phone said no – that wouldn’t do. It was their responsibility to keep that tank full, and he’d be on his way.
North Idaho Propane is located in Hayden, Idaho – approximately an hour’s drive from my son’s house.
The tank was refilled at 10 p.m., then the driver stayed to make sure both of his propane heaters were re-lit and putting out heat.
That’s the kind of service we just don’t see very often any more, so kudos to North Idaho Propane.
Our whole family has been using them for many years and we've always been happy with their service - but we were still impressed by their willingness to take full responsibility, then come out in the night to correct the error.
