January is the time of the year when the Valley of the Sun turns into Car Show & Car Auction mania. For those of us that enjoy classic cars, there is no better place to be than the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. Auto enthusiasts from around the world converge to not only buy and sell cars but automotive memorabilia of all types. Here is a quick rundown on just some of the events happening in January 2019.
Barrett-Jackson
If there is only one event that auto enthusiast must put on their bucket list it is the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction. Each January hundreds of thousands of buyers, sellers and spectators descend on West World of Scottsdale to participate in this world-class event. Scheduled this year for January 12 through January 20, it is the largest and longest collector car event of its type.

RM Sotheby's
One of my favorite events is the RM Sotheby’s Auction. It is a well-respected investment-grade collector car auction. Each year their sales exceed $35M in rare collectibles. In 2017, the owner of a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster took home a cool $6.6 million. RM Sotheby's takes place in Phoenix at the Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa on January 16, 17 and 18, 2019.

McDonald's Rock 'n' Roll Classic Car Show
McDonald's Rock 'n' Roll Classic Car Show in the parking lot surrounding McDonald's is held from 4-8 pm, every Saturday, 52 weeks of the year. This free open-air event is a great way to see hundreds of classic, hot rod, and muscle cars while listening to 50s and 60s era music. In January the number of cars and spectators swells in relation to all the automobile buffs that are visiting the valley. It is a great way to spend an early Saturday evening.
So if you are a car aficionado, there is no better place to be than the Phoenix/Scottsdale metro in January.
Let me close this article with a chance to listen to one of my favorite car songs. Performed by Neil Young and Stephen Stills it is an ode to a classic memory. Long May You Run.
