Do you find it hard to stick to a good fitness plan? These 5 simple steps should help you get on track and keep up with your exercise routine no matter what day of the week it is.
Step 1 - Think about exercises you have done in the past. Even if you don't like to exercise, there are plenty of ways to move your body that you can learn to like. Don't bother picking an exercise or class that you're not really into. It will not last and will leave you frustrated.
Even if you can't think of any exercises that you like, at least write down the ones you know you won't do. Then we'll address some ideas of what you can do that will help you start moving your body.
Some ideas for fun exercises include dancing, swimming, hiking/walking, biking, jumping on a trampoline, yoga, taking classes that sound interesting to you.
Step 2 - Fit in Exercise When You Can - If you've never been successful in sticking with an exercise plan, try walking in front of your TV for 1 minute a day. Then increase that a little each week or day. Even if you can only exercise for 10-15 minutes a day, that is better than nothing.
Exercise for longer periods of time several times a week but make sure you take at least 10-15 minutes to walk or dance on the other days. My favorite exercise that takes only 10-15 minutes a day is bouncing on a mini trampoline or Rebounder. It is great exercise and doesn't take much time to get good results. Find out more about this exercise here.
Step 3 - Reward Yourself When you Hit Your Goals - Write down your clear "why" along with many small goals that go along with the big "why". Then write down a list of rewards you want and reward yourself each time you hit one of your small goals. Make sure every goal is measurable, not just "I want to get healthy."
Some examples of small goals would be, "I will eat a salad each day this week." "I will remove all junk food from my home by Friday." "I will take good snacks to work so I won't be tempted to eat from the vending machine."
Step 4 - Home or Away? Decide where you will exercise and where you feel most comfortable. There are many pros and cons to exercising at home and at a gym. Make sure you think through these options and come up with a plan for where you will exercise most. Get all the top pros and cons for exercising at home or away from home with this Fitness Plan.
Step 5 - Stay Motivated - Get the 5 best ways to stay motivated to exercise along with free goal sheets here. Sometimes you have to change things up if you get bored or you need to get an exercise buddy. Either way, make sure you commit to exercising at least several times a week this year.
If you find yourself not exercising for a couple of weeks, just say, "Today we begin again." and get back to your original exercise plan and get moving!
I hope these ideas have helped you. What is your favorite way to exercise?
