Home sellers are always seeking ideas to maximize the appeal of their house. There’s always something that can be done to bring things to the next level, and the good news is that it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. In addition, it will put a smile on your face when you see how fresh your home looks with a few new touches!
There are a lot of effective and financially-friendly ways to replace out-of-date and worn-out items throughout your home. With these simple upgrades, you can spruce up just about any room.
Let there be light.
Overlooked rooms often have old lamps that are far from stylish or with shades that are dirty or even torn. You can buy brand-new table lamps and floor lamps, and you’ll be surprised at how affordable stylish new lamps can be. It’s best to buy a new lamp, as opposed to a used, antique one, this way you know it will function properly. After all, who doesn't love going to Target or Home Goods for a little shopping trip! Before you leave the store with those new lamps, however, make sure that you have bright lightbulbs to go with them! The lights need to come on instantly at full wattage when you turn the lamps on. Don't wait for the lights to come up to their full strength five minutes after the buyer has left the room!
Set the table.
After a while, end tables and coffee tables become unstylish. They also get stained from wet glasses and sometimes they’re wobbly. Investing in a new table can be well worth your time, and there are styles and colors to fit any décor.
You might consider glass tables since they are visually lighter and easier to move around than the old brown furniture that no one wants any more!
I just looked at a house with a dining room table that was so old and scratched that the seller had covered it with a piece of flooring vinyl! Oh dear! Since the seller wasn't planning on taking the table to Florida, it would make sense to get rid of it now and replace it with something inexpensive and fresh! A rented table would be an upgrade!
Pillow talk.
New throw pillows for sofas and chairs are another great way to add new life to an old room. Pillows with a neutral tone can add a touch of sophistication to a living room. Bold colorful pillows can add a pop of color to a neutral sofa or chair. If you have a homey guest room, consider something with a patchwork pattern. Go for some colorful, fun, and comfortable-looking for a family room or kids' play room. There are pillows for every occasion.
Don’t throw in the towel, buy some.
Towels are another way to bring some style and personality to a bathroom or kitchen. Maybe over the years the hand towels that are displayed in your bathroom have become out of date, or they’re looking thin and worn out. It won’t cost a lot to replace them.
Then take a look at your kitchen towels. It doesn’t take a lot for a kitchen towel to become unsightly from grease and coffee stains. Invest in new ones, and make sure they stay clean—use them only to dry your hands, not to clean up messes and spills.
In case you are wondering, kitchen towels draped over the stove handle are not a Martha Stewart decorating touch. Put them away while your home is on the market!
Cut a rug.
Rugs also can get worn out and dirty. In fact, they can get very dirty because people walk all over them every day. There’s even a good chance you don’t realize how dirty area rugs and throw rugs are. The right rug can be the perfect touch for a room, whether you’re looking for something elegant, colorful, or hip and stylish.
Renovating every room in your house as you prepare to sell just isn’t feasible, but these simple steps can add a fresh look to rooms throughout your home.
