Elizabeth, one of my favorite neighborhoods here in Charlotte, is located in the historic area and is one of our most walkable, friendliest communities in the city.

Rarely is there ever a time that you don't see someone strolling, walking or jogging through this delightful neighborhood, filled with bungalows with wonderful 'southern style' front porches.

As well, you will find these cool little book share depositories called "Little Free Libraries" that are located throughout the community.

Elizabeth Little Free Libraries

People strolling, walking, biking or driving by these Little Free Libraries can take a book (or two) and return or replace it with a book of their own. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation Friends Council supports the initiative through book donations.

It’s good to see these Little Libaries.  We even have neighborhoods that just do this on their own.  I think it is a fun way to create community by sharing books.

Debe, love this concept, it is popular in our neighborhood too and I have seen them in other neighborhoods too. I always wonder when and who started it? Clearly it is all over the Country...Endre

Mini libraries are big here to Debe Maxwell, CRS . We love them because we go through so many books in our home we just take them over to the mini library so someone else can enjoy them.

I love it too, Francine! The creativity of the décor of the boxes themselves is intriguing also!

Oh, they are so cool, Endre Barath, Jr.! I am seriously thinking of doing one in my own neighborhood - we have so many people who pass our home each day, strolling, walking & jogging. I would love to have my contractor build me one! Lord knows I have enough books to start the 'sharing!'

Debe, funny part is these look so much prettier than the ones in our neighborhood are. They are just boring nothing special about them....as to your suggestion, great idea, but I am a collector so I would not be able to part with mine only Diane would play this sharing concept...Endre

HaHa! You know, it KILLS me to get rid of books - I HAVE to buy the hardcopy and then I can't get rid of them. I recently did some cleaning out and donated several boxes - I realized that as much as I love them, I can't take them with me! LOL

Maybe if she hounds you enough?! It was hard for me to do but, I am trying to make my boys' lives easier when they have to take care of the estate! Not being morbid - I plan to be here for at least 40 more years but, it could take that long to get rid of them all! LOL

Good Morning, Sheila Anderson! I also love this and it really warms my heart to see these all over the place in some of the communities that have them. What a wonderful lesson for the next generations!

Hi Debe,  These mini-libraries are popping up all over around here.  We have one across the street from our house and one in front of our office building.  They seem to be very well used.
