Wordless Wednesday: Moss On The Roofline!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

I I took this picture of the moss growing on the roof-line of the buildings at the Cold Spring Tavern.   It was soft to the touch,  Emerald green silk velvet came to mind. Happy Wednesday!

The goodness of the world grew like moss in cracks, she thought. It grew, somehow, with hidden roots, nourished by something unseen.

Hello Alexandra and Ron - I imagine the appeal is better to see/admire than to touch.  Just imagining, mind you, no first hand experiences with touching moss on roofs.

Did you know there are 700 species of moss in British Columbia?  That's a lot of names to learn.

Morning Alexandra.

It does add color to the roof line.  I can only imagine what an inspector would write about it

When I was out hiking yesterday, I saw this type of moss on rocks and thought it looked very nice.

I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this, Alexandra...it's a lovely picture against the backdrop of the trees. But as someone who deals with home inspections all the time I did have to wonder what an inspector's assessment of this would be!

Thanks for sharing your photograph and the paired quote.

Moss growing on roofs can create costly repairs.

It's charming to look at, but my first thought was also about the damage to the roof. Lol. We are certainly all familiar with the home inspectors flagging any moss growing on a roof or structure.

Endre Barath, Jr. yes, it is about perspective.  Perhaps I should have mentioned that these building have been here since the late 1800's, and have survived all kinds of natural disasters, fires set by idiots also.  I am sure inspectors would read the riot act, but this is a historical building of Santa Babara County.  When we have fires and the building is threatened, they have a fireproof silicon wrap for it that was specifically creaated.  A

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 Living in Napa was living in moss heaven.  We had it everywhere on trees, on the decks, etc.  When summer came it disappeared with the high summer temos that make for good Cabernet Sauvignon.  I don't recall moss on our roof when we left.  LOL A

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we agree with the charm, however for a building that still functions having been built in the late 1800's to still be useful and operational, it speaks volumes, to the fact "that they don't build them like this anymore!"

Endre Barath, Jr. I have mentioned this in many posts on Cold Spring Tavern, and I realize that I have to repeat myself, as people forget and new people read the posts.  Enjoy the dry weekend...A

There is something so quaint and authentic about a mossy roof.  When I first moved into my home, most of the houses had heavy shake roofs.  As they aged we would sometimes see roofs that had similar mossy look.  However, over the years, they have been replaced with other types of materials.
