It is that time of year again here in New York, both on Long Island and in New York City.  The time of year when graduations take place.  This year many new Feng Shui Consultants will be graduating and starting a new career....which sent my memory way, WAY back.

Feng Shui is so popular in New York it's not surprising that so many people are taking the classes.  Just like Real Estate Agents, Home Stagers or anyone else involved in one way or another with Real Estate, most new graduates, if not all, are making a HUGE commitment...to their clients and themselves.  I believe that most are not simply jumping on the "Feng Shui bandwagon" but truly wish to inspire and help their clients because it is something they truly believe in; they have seen it work.

I wondered how many are going to take the plunge and quit their regular jobs.  I had to keep mine for several years while I was establishing my name, my business and the MANY misconceptions of Feng Shui.  It was a difficult job just getting the name out there at a time when it seemed no one knew what it was.  I wonder how many will persevere through the difficult times they are sure to encounter; I see such dedication in so many fields here on ActiveRain, particularly in Home Staging which some people are still not aware of yet or have misconceptions about.  And they hard work they put in to dispel the misconceptions and never quit because they love it and believe in it.

Staging a Home helps it sell...faster and for more money.  Feng Shui helps a home sell...faster and for more money.  The two work hand in hand.

If I had one word of advice to the new Feng Shui Consultants it would simply be this:  NEVER stop learning.  I was fortunate to have attended many, MANY additional Feng Shui Classes and Intensives to be able to study with a multitude of wonderful mentors.  It broadens your horizons and is helpful to every one of your clients.  I am convinced you can NEVER learn enough about Feng Shui-your knowledge is going to be vital to many, many people.

PERSISTANCE.  One powerful word with a lot of meaning.

I always enjoy thinking about going to a Feng Shui Class, I have been pertty spritual and know that positive energy has an impact on me.

Carole, you now also can be a great Feng Shui mentor to these young up and comers, and above all offer them encouragement that they can make a profession out of it like you have. You're such a good example in this field.

HI Carole... I can vouch for Feng Shui selling homes. I have seen homes that I thought should sell, by being in a great area and priced well and then nothing happens, then the Realtor has a Feng Shui person redo the home setting, and Wow, the home sells fast!

Love the Sunset border, is that a Long Island Sunset?

Carole ~ You're such a great example to others who are starting out.  Do you think that sellers should have a feng shui expert and a stager in before listing, or can they both be handled by one person?

Carole, you know that I love your blogs. As a homeowner first, and real estate person second, I HAVE to tell you that, after remodeling our house, I'm horrified that the front door looks (through the created opening) to the back door- doesn't that mean that money flies out? Feng Shui is so cool, except, how do I fix it? :) really- it now bothers me.

Greg, I would highly recommend it, you'd be hooked.  Our surroundings have a tremendous impact on us.

Gary, I would love to do that but don't get contacted by new consultants--and couldn't ger more then 3 consultants to get together in New York when I was Chapter Director of The Guild....a bit discouraging but I tried!

Fred, I'm so glad you've seen it for yourself.  We let in light and a positive flow of energy and it makes a big difference.  (I don't see the sunset border (?)

Maureen, That's a great question.  As you probably know I don't rent furniture but I have been redesigning (we called it rearranging) since '97.  I advocate for home staging but if I were a stager I would learn just the principles and topics of Feng Shui--it doesn't have to be a certification course.  I truly believe Stagers would have a huge edge up with this knowledge and add a new dimension to their business.

Carole,

You said it.... The bottom line is perserverance in anything....

Carole,

I freely admit that if my husband was not so supportive of my chosen profession that I would probably have taken at least a part time job to supplement the finances in this trying market.  But I'm focused, if nothing else.  LOL

Carole  You are so very talented.  I agree that one can never stop learning.  I was unware of how popular feng shui is in New York.  That is quite exciting.

Carole- Well, you are a cut above the rest. I love to read your blogs and learn more about Feng Shui.

Carole~ no wonder you are so good at what you do- you never stop learning and you realize the importance of investing in yourself.

No matter what....in all industries it takes experience and dedication to survive. You do good Carole...and I presume it is because of your demeanor as well. :)

Never stop learning.  Words of wisdom for all of us.  Thanks Carole :-)

Hi Carole,
Those that stand still, get left behind.  I believe that continuing our education in whatever we do is essential to our success.  You are a great example for the new "graduates".

Hi Carole - great post! Breaking new ground is of itself the most difficult, then adding on the need to make a living...well, its only for the strongest in the pack. Congratulations on your trail blazing success!

Carole--It is hard to start any new business and it does take persistance...Never stop learning is a wonderful mantra too!

06/02/2008 01:10 PM by Teri Eckholm, Realtor® Anoka County MN (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

Laurie, Not to worry.  Yes, if your front door is in alignment with your back door the energy can flow right back out.  Something to deflect that flow will help--you can use a crystal if you like them, they diffuse the energy, a plant by the back door to stop the energy from going back out--even a suncatcher to deflect it will work--do it with the intention to keep the positive energy inside.

Joan, New consultants should blog, it's helpful for everyone!  Starting a new business is more difficult then I would have imagined.

Cheryl, I am always SO glad I stuck it out!  I hope anyone who loves their business does the same.

Carol, It IS a trying market...but it sounds like you have a "keeper."  Things will change, for some they already are.

Joan, Feng Shui has absolutely taken off in New York....finally!  I'm SO glad I stuck it out all those years!

Katerina, You know the power of Feng Shui and Intention....and you're doing great!  What a benefit you can give to your buyers and sellers.

Lisa, I never thought of it as "investing in myself" but that's exactly what I was doing.  And I love to learn as long as it's something I'm interested in.

Sally, Thank you...I can say the same for you.  And I don't believe it was a coincidence that you cleaned up and then got a new client :)  Another wonderful post among your many others!

Kris, Since we love what we do, it's always something I look forward to---and you as well I'm sure.

Cynthia, There is always so much more to learn---about anything you love!  I don't believe I'll ever stop trying.

Sheron, Thank you!  It's had it's moments but you know how much I love and believe in Feng Shui.

Teri, I had no idea it would be THAT difficult....but it was an unknown subject back then.  I believe one of the best desicions I made was to get a web site done.  We had no marketing back then but they provide it for the students now.

Carole,
I LOVE the logo that your children created for you...beautiful!!

Education combined with experience and a big heart is invaluable and hard to come by....couple all of that with a strong intuition and a lot of soul, and you have the absolute best Feng Shui consultant~ YOU!

Carole - I know almost nothing about feng shui but clients do mention it all the time.  They say things like, I got that red teapot for good feng shui. That is probably the equivalent of saying I staged my last home by baking cookies before an open house - don't even get me started on another cookie rant.

Is there a good feng for beginners book that you like.  I am not planning on becoming an expert ;) just need to know enough to explain to people why there is more to it that putting something red in your home.  A website would also be good.

Feng Shui as a science can affect the physical, mental, emotional and the spiritual level of an individual. If at the physical level, it relates to the changing in the placement of objects, it can help you achieve mental stability and progress emotionally. And once the emotional balance is created, one can evolve spiritually to the higher self. Experts highlighting the importance of Feng Shui also state that --Feng Shui as an art can help you progress but it can't change your destiny, unless you work hard to achieve it. Feng Shui is not just placement of articles in the house but it is also connected to your entire well-being.The Chinese exponents of Feng-Shui believe that where you live and how you allocate and arrange the elements of your home or workplace can significantly affect the harmony of your health, wealth, and happiness. Many of Feng Shui's precepts are based on sound practical sense, others seem to be merely a matter of convention, while for some people Feng Shui lies beyond any rational explanation. It considers four factors: the Chi or "breath of life" potential of the neighborhood; the site orientation or the importance of the direction in which the building faces; the five elements -- fire, water, wood, metal, earth -- and their mutual influence upon a location; the power of water and its significance in relation to the property. For more view- realtydigest.blogspot.com
