Great Place to Walk 2 Level Miles in Kona

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

We spotted a couple of guys running along the Maka'eo Walking Path in Kona but at the time of day we were there (mid-afternoon), it was pretty quiet. Not a soul gardening. Not a soul relaxing under the Australian  Fire Tree to read a book. Nobody but mongooses darting about.

This walking path provides a way to not have to walk uphill. My neighbor, when he goes out for a walk, does extreme walks, and he is almost 70. He walks at least 5 miles. When you live on the slope of a volcano, inclines are steep. You can easily walk into town, it's only a mile, but getting back up the hill is another story.

You can read more about the perfect walking spot and view photos of the spectacular garden in my personal blog today at this link: Kona Maka'eo Walking Path and Community Garden.

Aloha Elizabeth - meandering mongooses - Patricia Clarkson at the Safeway and the joys of walking regardless of number of steps taken.  Am I missing anything?  Your posts definitely take me on a journey each time I visit.

Elizabeth, I agree five miles is extreme, but just to be clear so is two miles... I prefer two blocks:)Endre

Good morning Elizabeth. I have a neighbor in his eighties who bikes up my hill in any and all weather. Saw him twice yesterday in the -45 degree weather.

Elizabeth, that flat walk sounds good, but don't get off-balance and run into those cactus, could be disastrous!   One time showing a home, I turned too fast, and got off-balance and ran into a plant.   Had to go back into the house and remove my pants to extract those needles so I could drive home.

Aloha, Michael. Well, it is a tad chilly here in Hawaii this morning. I almost want to put on a robe, if I wasn't so lazy. Brrr, it's 68 degrees.

Endre Barath, Jr. I know what you mean about 2 miles versus 2 blocks; however, as long as you aren't wearing heels, you can do it.

Ha Ha Elizabeth I can hardly do it with sneakers so Heels is not an option at least for now:))Endre

Sheila Anderson On the one hand, that person could be an inspiration. On the other hand, a fool. Which is it?

Joan Cox I've also stuck my eye on a sago palm, lowering a water hose while not watching what I was doing. Ouchy. How in the world did you drive home with cactus needles stuck in your pants?

AND that trip home was from Golden to Aurora, LONG trip.  Those pants came off in the garage!!!  I did get most out before driving home, but there were still some in there.

Well, we did a few miles on a flat treadmill today, does that count? lol. Admitedly, the view wasn't as nice as this one.

Absolutely stunning landscape, Elizabeth.  It is amazing to see desert plant life in a tropical environment, isn't it!

Endre Barath, Jr. I bet you could do 2 miles on an elliptical pretty easily. That's the minimum workout, LOL.

Joan Cox I would be taking my pants off as I was driving. I mean, what would happen if you had to suddenly slam on the brakes and you jamed a cactus needle into a sensitive area?

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I did 5 minutes on a rowing machine but it was incorporated into my 30-minute, fast-paced workout at the gym now. I figure I can cough up 30 minutes at least twice a week and see how it goes . . . Who says you have to do it 3 days a week anyway? Who are these people?

Myrl Jeffcoat Ever since I ripped out our cactus garden in our back yard in Land Park, I've been missing the evil cacti and beautiful succulents. All I have to do is walk by a cactus plant and I get needles, they fly off the plant and head in my direction.
