Historically, Placerville was a supply town for many gold mining camps in the area that started appearing during the 1840's, when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill in Coloma. Today, Downtown Placerville is a commercial hub where restaurants, specialty shops, grocery stores, and other retail establishments and local businesses are located. The street also hosts various events and festivals to commemorate the rich history of the town which becomes a famous attraction for tourists.
