My good friends Ron and Alexandra Seigel surprised me this week with a couple of special deliveries for my birthday. The first, was a bottle of fabulous heirloom wine from a favorite winery we toured last Fall. We'll be uncorking it later tonight. The second arrived yesterday, and I was absolutely delighted as we haven't been able to find it. Isn't it gorgeous? It is also a great reminder of yet another wonderful trip we took together last year. Can you guess what it is? It's better than cake - at least it is to me.
Okay, several of you have already guessed it's a kind of cheese, so I'll update and elaborate. It's called Alp Meadow. The colored coating is made from chopped up alpine wildflowers and herbs. You eat it too, along with the creamy, cow's milk cheese. Here's a complete description of this wonderful treat. We enjoyed it last night with a sparkling Rose, and it was a perfect pairing. Here's to great friends, good wines, and delicious food. Happy Saturday.
