30 Below Keeps the Riff Raff Out

This was the actual air temperature when I woke up this morning.

26 BelowThat's 26 degrees BELOW zero (without the wind chill).

So what does that feel like, how do you explain it to people in the South? When I got dressed this morning I put on thermal long johns (top and bottom), sportsman's boot socks, blue jeans, a hooded sweat shirt, and winter cover-alls made for those who work outdoors in this climate. The cold penetrated this in about a minute when I went out to start the car. It started (reluctantly) and I hurried right back into the house. 15 minutes later I headed to the office where I am now.

Something hilarious to us Northlanders: Last night on our news they showed a Floridia weather guesser cautioning people to dress in layers because the temp was to get down to the mid 50's. I think you could hear all of ND, MN, MT, WI and more LOL and rolling on the floor as that's shorts and tank-top weather up here.

Good morning again Bob. I get it and absolutely agree. It is great to go with the flow. Stay warm.

I was complaining because it was 14 degrees here.  I guess it could be worse.  Stay warm out there.

This is the first time I can remember that they called off school because of the cold Sheila Anderson but I think that's a good thing to protect our children. The post office also called off home delivery State wide which is another first in my memory. I am going to go with the flow as you suggest and when I co home for lunch I plan on staying there.

Cold is cold Norma J. Elkins and 14 degrees is not a temp to ignore either when venturing out of doors.

Hello Bob,  I keep forgetting what that feels like to have that low of temps in the area that get down that much.  Lucky you got the car started, do you have to plug it in at night.

This particular car is the only one I do plug in Will Hamm . It's my old Honda Odyssey and the only vehicle we have that you can plug in.

I hope the other cars start for the kids with that kind of cold weather and you keep the gas tank half full.

We do always fill up at a quarter tank Will Hamm . Tina and her car are back in Milwauke which I think is just as cold but she can walk to anywhere she needs to go... her dorm is just across the street from the school.

Bob, this is why so many of us spend our later years in Florida. I have more sweim suits than dress suits.

I like that thought Joe Pryor . Being semi-retired now I'm going a lot more casual then I ever have.

Brrr, it's minus 6 this morning in Monroe NY - I wonder if -26 and -6 feel that much different...?

And that Florida comment was funny. I guess warm and cold is whatever you are used to. 50 would be gorgeous!

I agree Kat Palmiotti , 50 would be GREAT! I've always thought that +20 degrees to -10 degrees is all the same but colder then that it penetrates your clothing. Add wind to that and it's really dangerous!

But at least a dry cold...Hey that's what they sorta say in Arizona in the Summer about the heat!

It actually snowed as well Peter den Boer .... but it was a dry snow . Very easy to shovel.

I'm smiling at the comment from the Florida weather guy, Bob.  I have only endured about a half dozen days in my entire life below zero.  And, those weren'there in Sacramento.  They were in the Lake Taho region while skiing.

It made us laugh Myrl Jeffcoat . Our weather guesser gives the same warning but usually when the temp first starts to hit below zero but 50 above. They would have to give that warning year around here in North Dakota at 50 above.
