I just finished staging a beautiful home that just needed a few finishing touches.  The living room and family room appeared dated because of the gold crushed velvet couches.  I purchased SureFit Slip Covers at Bed Bath & Beyond for $198. These slip covers are fantastic!!! They are like Spanks for furniture.  The sofa and love seat were small in scale and had a very low back and narrow arms so I was a little woried how they would fit. It turned out perfectly.  Don't you just love a happy ending?

The home is in a beautiful family neighborhood and just needed a gentle nudge to appeal to the under 35 set. The home goes on the market tomorrow and will hopefully sell quickly.

I wondered about the Surefits. Thanks for the photos, Maureen.

Maureen, Very nice room transformation and isn't it amazing that something as simple as slipcovers can make such a dramatic difference.  Imagine how many potential buyers you added to the equation!

Maureen, I love those slipcovers, I wanted them so I could change the look and colors of my sofa--I think they fit well and you can't tell they're slipcovers.

Surefits really are fantastic - they are easy to put on and look great.

I wish I had taken a close up of each couch before and after.  You really can't get the full effect of how dated they were.  My mom had gold crushed velvet chair back in the 60's.  When you have something so dated in your home it makes buyers wonder what else has not been upgraded.  In this particular case the home was completely updated.

How difficult are they to put on?  It's been awhile since I've battled with pantyhose, but it seems to be a similar concept.  Like the Spanks analogy...I own one, but haven't tried it yet.

Susan - they couldn't be easier to put on.  They have stickers on them that say - Back center, left arm, right arm, front.  You just line them up and tuck it in. Takes only a minute or so.

These look great, Maureen, as does your staging talent ... OK, I'm sold on Surefit.  Will definitely try them on future occupied homes.  One question -- Your client pays for them, right?  I wouldn't think they are reusable ...

I just used one on a sofa in my most recent occupied staging job, too. I got a big kick out of the reaction from the owners - "You just saved us $1500 for a new sofa!"  They really do a lot to provide an instant update.

Sure looks better than that gold sofa.  What a nice finished product.  Hope it sells quickly too.

Maureen,

I've been collecting Surefits at Tuesday Morning lately for a song. I can't wait to list an owner occupied to ry they out. I even have one in green silk.

Hi Maureen!  Though I usually have an aversion to 'slipcovers', the Sure-fit brand seems to be a nice tight-fitting brand which could work in an occupied.  Something had to be done with that sofa! Those ugly gold-velvet couches always hurt my eyes! My grandma owns one!!  : )  I will keep on the look-out for Sure-fits at the discount places....Tuesday Morning....just in case! Thanks! Maureen - Yes the client pays for them.

Kathleen - I did too, they always look like someone took an old wrinkled sheet and threw it over the couch.  Some are so ill fitting they look terrible.  I am a convert with these surefit ones though.  They are a miracle.

Jeff - thanks for your comment.  You are such a good egg.

Susan - They don't have Tuesday Morning where I live but I'll have to keep my eyes open in the discount stores.

Great idea....my parents used to change slipcovers that they had made with matching window treatments with the seasons...it is amazing how you can change the look of a whole house with this touch. Heavier treatments in the colder months here and lighter material and colors in the spring and summer give you a whole new outlook on life !

Sally - that is too funny.  My parents did the same exact thing.  The whole color scheme would change from season to season. It did keep things interesting.

Maureen...

I agree 110%. I once had this very old flowered couch that of course went out of style. I didn't want to get rid of it because it was so comfortable. And yet it was an eye sore. So I bought a slip cover and it made all the difference in the world. If you're wondering what ever happened to the couch...Simple...A 260 lb Blog Boy finally managed to plop himself down one too many times :)

P.S. I sometimes call him The Fat Man...Shhh...Don't tell anyone...It can be our little secret :)

I've often wondered on how well these slip covers would look.  When you have no other options, I can't see why we wouldn't use them.  For $189 I would not hesitate to get some.  Thanks for sharing.  Good luck on selling the house quickly!   Emma

great staging, my friend -- not just with the covers, but you made fantasic changes with the shelving and focus on the fireplace!

Maureen.. Great job.  I like the fact you got rid of the chair by the fireplace.  Also there is now a solid color rug.  Covering the couch goes without saying.

Maureen,

It looks great!!  Spanks are soooo uncomfortable & hot too!!!  Had to share that...bought some 2 weeks ago!

Wow!  I am a new stager and live in an area where it seems everyone has outdated furniture.  I am so happy to learn the Sure-fits really work.  I have had unfortunate results with other types of slip covers.  Thank you so much for sharing.

Thanks for sharing your experience and pictures of the Surefit slipcovers.  I too am leary of slipcovers, in general, because they NEVER end up looking like the 'picture' on the package!  LOL  You've sold me on this option...I will be adding that to my 'shopping list' as needed.

I am surprised...this looks really great. I often forget about slipcovers. Thanks for the reminder. "B"

Thanks for the idea.  I just told my mother-in-law who loves the interior design world.  She is hoping to start a staging company.  She cant wait to try your idea.  Clearly it works.  Keep it up.

Maureen, thanks for the information.  I haven't tried slipcovers before because I didn't want to struggle with putting them on only to have them not fit properly or look sloppy.  The SureFit look great.  I'll give them a try.

Kudos to Maureen. This home sold in less than a week for more than full price in a tough market. I can honestly say this would not have happend without Maureen's staging skills and creativity.

Maureen you deserve your cookie award for being able to put on slip covers that look great!!  Honestly Margo and I have just about given up on them - even the Sure Fit ones.  Do tell us your secret.   Betty  PS  Congrats on the quick sale.
