“The thing to do, it seems to me, is to prepare yourself so you can be a rainbow in somebody else’s cloud. Somebody who may not look like you. May not call God the same name you call God — if they call God at all. They may not dance your dances or speak your language. But be a blessing to somebody. That’s what I think.”
Maya Angelou
We enjoy "giving back" as a daily ritual. We make it our goal to be kind to everyone. We happily cede our place in line at the market, or on the entrance to the freeway. We will help someone checking out who is short on change or more by handing them the difference.
We give to organizations that make things happen...like our no kill cat shelter who now have more empty cages than cats (10 only, and of these ten there are 4 bonded pairs). They also built thanks to so many contributors an enclosed outdoor place with trees and jungle gyms. At 10:00 when the cages are being cleaned, the cats hope out to enjoy the sunshine.
We also deliver towels to the dog no kill shelter, Quincy likes dogs, too. He would like one to play with and go on walks with. Ron says: not yet!
We have been longtime subscribers of Amazon Smile. We have supported different charities. Our latest is the Navy Seals Museum. They do wonderful work from remodeling homes to handicap standards for the wounded vets, scholarships to kids that have lost a parent, etc..
During the fires, the Von's market had a program where we could contribute needed supplies to the firemen. We bought bottled water and Pepperidge Farm cookies as requested by the first responders.
There is always an opportunity to contribute. It does not have to always be money or volunteering. For us, it can be as simple as letting our neighbor use our Wi-Fi when theirs is down! Or rescuing our neighbor's dog when she wandered in the marshes.
Clouds abound, rainbows are important. They always bring a smile to someone. Like the rainbow pictured above from this afternoon as we drove home, after five days of steady rain...It inspired this post for Sally K. & David L. Hanson contest on being the best. Thank you Hanson's for hosting this challenge.
