The "throw away" sign mentality

Why do so many agents and brokers treat their For Sale yard signs with so little care?  I see too many Realtor signs leaning over, poorly placed and too often ignored. The opportunity to put your name out in the public is worth a lot of money (Nike, Coke and others would pay $1,000(s) to be able to advertise like this), yet since it is free (except the cost of the sign/frame itself) most agents under utilize this increadible opportunity.

I feel your sign is your most visible sales tool and your greatest opportunity to brand yourself directly to your target market (the local neighborhood where you have a listing).  Can agents please get back to my about why they don't use their signs as a valuable marketing tool?  I know most agents have to purchase their own signs and so many complain about that expense and yet, so many agents never pick up their signs once a listing is sold or de-listed.  For a little extra investment, you can purchase a better, longer lasting sign, or add custom riders to your listing or add a slip-on decorative outer frame which would help support the upscale image most agents want to project.

I am just trying to understand this market better.  thank you for your feedback,  Jeff Lincoln, Owner, LincolnLawnFrames.com

Hi Jeff, I completely agree with you. I take pride in my signs and find it non-professional to see signs leaning at a 45 degree angle or completely lying on the ground. Obviously things happen, but Realtors should keep up with their sign's appearance as it reflects on them and the home for sale.

I think the last few years were so easy and there were so many signs that they just got left out of the loop. I do a lot of land and used the throw away signs for land, the signs tend to disappear mysteriously. However, on a residential lisitng I use a good sign and will collect it at closing.
