THE PUBLIC AT LARGE DOES NOT KNOW

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with people first...then business Ran Right Realty 636943 licensed to thrill

Agents, family, friends and people at large are all aware in general about various subjects but does that mean they know what they are talking about? This question applies to all careers, practices and endeavors one can pursue. I know a little bit about everything as my seeking and wanting to know ability runs at optimum however does that make me a master of the subjects or the products for that matter?

REPETITION CAN DECEIVE

I file taxes every year but I could not tell you anything about the tax laws & all related matters to it. I know to file or else and I hire someone to do so thus I comply. I can cite some buzz words like refund. federal or state, having to pay back, write-off and audit but remember ....each word is a door to a deeper subject.

SAME WITH...

Before they put courtroom drama on TV & not counting Perry Mason shorts, I spent 20 years in the court rooms in different parts of California. I visited the criminal, family, civil, bankruptcy & small claims court rooms & while waiting to attend to my business heard everyone else's business. I found it fascinating.

BONUS MATERIAL

I heard the judges rule on the findings and evidence presented and heard what worked, what didn't and what was necessary to enter in and participate successfully in some of these specialized fields with its own strict rules and procedures. I knew more than newly licensed attorneys but here's the truth & reality at work

MY EXPERIENCE IS LIMITED

I didn't attend a law school or have a law degree. I had nothing to draw from or build upon past my own relevant experiences. Interesting to note that the new licensees had no experience thus I could comment on various points where they could not. The point: Its the combination that makes it all work & then some

MEDICAL FIELD

Same dynamics in the field of medicine. having attended the various classes in the fields of medical practice is one thing and knowing how to apply them another and lets not forget their quality of care and accurate diagnosing and remedies that at best only hands-on years of the total experience produces

SAME WITH THE FOLLOWING

Knitting, sewing, cooking, cleaning, building, engineering, trouble-shooting specifics, and the thousands more examples of products, services and even teachings/learning's relevant to the various endeavors. On Real Estate which I am going to single out, I saved for last. Who hasn't heard of it? Seen it on TV. Had a friend or neighbor or family member go through this where they couldn't comment? But what then?

 REAL ESTATE MEETING

I conducted a Real Estate meeting with some lay people the other day. All knew something or another about the subject matter in general as I have covered above. However, when we got to specific questions and answers as well as what is allowed and what isn't and time and money saving subjects, the room went silent. Why? Because decades or practical experiences, solution & results was upon them via my responses

SILENCE WAS LOUD

As the meeting progressed, I noticed something. When we started, everyone had something to say, nodded, interrupted and shared their supposed Real Estate know-how. As I spoke more and more and delved deeper into the realms of the subject where only a practitioner and savvy person would go the room became silent

I HAD TO ASK...

From a lively group to a quiet group, I had to ask if I was making sense or if people were tracking with me because I was getting stares and silence (full attention). All responded with an excited yes, go on and its making sense gestures, nods and body language affirmations. I paused often to see if they were keeping up

THE MEETING HAD A POINT

This family was facing decisions about their widowed mother and where she would go, how would she live and how to go about it all. It involved her limited income, her expenses, a mortgage, downsizing, a rental in a bad state of repairs, liabilities, landlord tenant issues, taxes, manufactured homes and so many related data

END RESULT

All remarked lets do as you say. Proceed. Sounds good. Lets not waste time and get started right away. The answers were there and the direction to travel was clear with a goal in mind that was achievable for all problems known and for what was not known, we would deal with at the appropriate times and events

REALITY

I have often said that Real Estate while exciting and satisfying to investors, sellers and buyers alike as well as to people who rent is not a game but it feels like a game in play. Think Monopoly Game Board. Fun and easy to engage with all having a chance to win but the real life Real Estate comes with great risk & reward

NO FAIR    DO-OVER?

Real Estate is a high stakes interaction for gain or loss or break-even and not by chance either. Mistakes are costly and not just in the moment either. So involved is this business it has a statute of limitations for lawsuits extending to 4 years. What does this tell you? There is a lot to know and do and it better be correct

THE POINT IS MADE

I can remove splinters. I can argue in front of a judge and I can cook a meal. How well I do any of this and more remains to be seen but I can participate. However in my chosen field of practice and choice of career I can nearly guarantee an outcome when it comes to buying, selling renting or managing Real Estate

MY FEES

I charge for this performance as does anyone who is offering or selling a product or service. What price do I put on my intellectual property remains to be set by me & agreed to by you. In the many instances there is negotiation room only because all events are different & custom and not because you want to get a bargain

Stick to what you know, admit what you dont and look for the person who has truly been there & done that

HI Richie... I don't believe that the public really understand what we do as real estate professionals, how we do it, and why we do it, and how we bring value to them. That is our fault... as an industry we have tried to keep this all as a state secret. I'm all about educating my clients... the more they understand about what I do, the better a client they are (and more appreciative, as well).

Good morning, Richie - there's a lot of value here. A good read and lots of thoughts to explore regardless one's field of endeavor or interest.  We can learn so much by listening but will likely be able grasp the entire picture.

Hi Richie- many people have just enough knowledge about many things to get themselves into trouble. The wise person knows enough to know that he doesn't know all that he should.
