FedEx - no way, not using it!

Early last month I sent a very small invoice to one of my regular customers in Florida. She wrote the check and then forgot to send it, so on February 2 she stopped at Fed Ex and paid for two day shipping.

Then she sent the tracking number and said I should expect the check on Tuesday. That would have been LAST Tuesday.

Needless to say, I wouldn't be writing this if it had arrived. Fed Ex - another failure

When it didn't come on Tuesday, I checked the tracking. It said I should expect delivery on Friday. So much for paying extra for fast delivery.

Friday came and went and I knew nothing would happen until Monday. They don't deliver out in the woods on weekends.

Yesterday I checked again and found that it had arrived in Troutdale on Friday evening and was "in transit." No delivery date was specified.

Tonight I checked again and found the same thing - they aren't saying when - or IF - they plan to deliver.

I wonder if they even know where it is. Did they lose it? Did they throw it in a snowbank? What?

Remembering that this wasn't the first such experience, I checked my stats. Sure enough, I wrote this post 3 years ago. They haven't improved, and I have renewed my vow to never, ever, ever use FedEx.

Meanwhile, last Friday I ordered a pair of shoes for my husband. They arrived via UPS on Monday.

And another client in Florida sent a check via the U.S. Mail on a Monday and it arrived on Thursday.

Why do people still believe in FedEx? They've proven once again that they are the "slow boat."

UPDATE:  On Wednesday I tried to contact FedEx through their customer service email. I immediately got a response saying my inquiry would be routed to the correct person. Today I got an email saying they would look into it.

Meanwhile... on Thursday I found a phone number and called. The gentleman I spoke with said he would open an investigation into what had happened. The package was still showing as being in Oregon - ever since the previous Friday. He said someone would call me back by 5:30.

Not having heard from anyone, yesterday I checked the tracking again - and found that the package was in Sandpoint and had been put on a truck for delivery at 8:30 that morning. I found it at my back door when I went out to feed the horse last night.

Two day delivery took 13 days - but at least it did finally get here.

I hardly get any deliveries from FedEx - they almost always come via USPS or UPS. Maybe this is part of the reason why!

I've had similar issues with FEDEX, Marte. I can see a package has arrived at some destination point... and then crickets as to when to arrives at my door.

when I shop online Marte Cliff I always use Amazon Prime.... it's either delivered by Amazon or UPS....without fail....but I do use Fed Ex for sending envelopes that need to arrive the next day.... they've NEVER failed...

Good morning Marte. I have not had this experience but since you have shared this I won't be using Fed X either.

Dörte Engel Maybe all the junk mail slows them down. I don't know - my son's girlfriend is now working for the post office so I'm hearing about some of the strange things that go on.

Kat Palmiotti Right now it seems that UPS is the fast one.

Barbara Todaro I think you've been lucky!

Grant Schneider Yep. Those laurels don't hold up well when you sit on them too long. Thanks for the funny mind-picture!

Sheila Anderson I sure won't! I told my customer "Next time just use a stamp." I'm not being hurt because a small check is delayed, but it bothers me that she spent extra for 2 day delivery and it's now been 11 days - and tracking still doesn't show it having moved since last Friday. "No scheduled delivery date" is all I get when I check.

I don't think any of the options are perfect.  Individual drivers can sure make an impact.  Just a few days ago a FedEx driver was delivering a heavy package to our office.  He "went the extra mile" and put it in the backseat of my co-workers car.  She was quite impressed.  TLC still goes a long way.

Marte,

We had great service with FedEx every time.  When we lived in Los Angeles, we often used their early delivery services, and all our clients were very happy.  They have been good here also...We knew our guy's name who delivered in LA and in Napa.  A

Keith McMullin It certainly does. From everything I've experienced, one thing FedEx does right is hire good drivers - with excellent attitudes.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I have never had a complaint about one of their drivers. Every one I've met has been polite and helpful.

I haven't had such a crappy experience with Fed Ex.  Good grief.  They are only as good the local branch I guess.

Chris Ann Cleland Maybe the problem comes with cross-country shipping. The local people can only be good at serving us locally.

Marte Cliff - I also noticed Fed X is not as reliable as it should be. Things have changed a lot for that company. I received a Fed X last Monday. It was scheduled to be delivered by 3 p.m. and it didn't arrive until after 4 p.m.
