Did You Get Lucky Today? Was It A Real Estate Experience?

How many times a day do you get lucky?  WOW…Is that a loaded question or what? Betting on the right horse is getting lucky; selecting the winning number with one spin on the roulette wheel is getting lucky; getting laid is getting lucky; and there are many other moments that describe getting lucky.

In the real estate business, one does NOT get lucky. Being visible and overhearing a conversation; or seeing a contact you haven’t seen in a long time; or having floor time when the phone rings is not luck.

Networking with people results in business. Satisfying your office schedule to cover the phones during “up time” is another business duty. There is no luck involved. The more you cover the phones, the greater the opportunity to answer a potential client call.

In my opinion, ninety-nine percent of the real estate business is not a result of “luck.” The outcome of each new client is a product of one form of marketing or another. Networking, Branding, Focusing, Marketing and Being Visible, As Often As Possible, must all be interchangeable and synonyms for the word “Lucky,”  since it's used so frequently in the real estate business!!!

I’m sure most of you don’t agree, but that’s how I see it…..

Couldn't agree more.  I'm putting myself out there to be "lucky" today by sitting on floor duty.

Hi Barbara --- I had to(and I mean had to) laugh when I read about getting lucky in real estate.  This type of real estate banter between agents by the water cooler or wherever it takes place and it is an immediate sign to me - to walk away from any such gathering.  It's called opportunity -- knowledge(as in knowing what to do) and probably some confidence based on the competance of the agent who was called lucky.  Sorry, to digress.  it's one of my pet peeves.

Barbara, there are very few things I believe luck has anything to do with, the lottery being one of the few. I agree with you, real estate definitely isn't luck, it's a pet peeve if someone says I'm lucky. Being successful in anything takes consistent and focused work every day. I'm not lucky, I'm blessed!
