Loan was funding today....buyer quit his job Friday?

I had a purchase for an FHA signed on Friday. Today just befor funding they called to verify employment. "he no longer is working"! What!...so I get on the phone....the company says that he was laid off Friday because the job is finished. But he is a Union Construction worker, and is being hired back next Monday for another job. I guess that is the way this company works with union construction workers. But FHA is having a hard time with this. I am working to get a letter from the company that he is continueing to work. This is my first time running into this kind of deal killer....any help or suggestions....
