And The Winner Was...

I was right...my prediction was correct...The awards presentation of the 91st Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is now history.  My prediction that the ceremony would extend beyond three hours was true.  Predictably.  Some quotes from the night but from the  past:

I, uh...I have a television so I'm going to spend some time here to tell you some things

[to orchestra conductor:] And, and... and sir, you're doing a great job, but you're so quick with that stick so why don't you sit.

'Cause I may never be here again

                                                                                                                   Julia Roberts

I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels

like she like doesn't fit in anywhere.  You do.  Stay weird.

Stay different, and then when it's your turn, and you're standing on this stage please pass the

same message along.

                                                                                                                  Graham Moore

No matter where you're from, your dreams are valued

                                                                                                                   Lupita Nyong'o

And after Sunday's ceremony, more quotes will be undoubtedly be added.  And my prediction:  the ceremony will likely be back and it will likely be longer than three hours.  Likely it will be watched by many and likely those of you who never watch shows of this type or television at all will not see it.  Amazingly, life goes on.  Likely you already have guessed that.

Hi Michael- in years past I would not have missed the Oscars. I quit watching the I love me Fest  a few years ago when it became so political.  And I must admit this is the first year when I have not seen a single one of the nominated movies.

Oh, sounds like your prediction was correct, Michael - who would have known?!

The GaGa & Cooper bit was quite steamy, don't you think?! I'm convinced it wasn't acting either!

Michael my prediction is they do not need "hosts" that probably saved an hour, maybe "hosts" will be just a past... BTW I did not see who got the Life Time Achievement award aka the Cecile B Demille award?? Endre

Morning Michael.

I predict that your prediction is correct.  I haven't watched it in a long time. Don't plan on it next year either

Hi Michael,
I didn't watch and I predict I'll never watch another celebrity awards show again.  I prefer to read the list of winners the next day (or not) and save myself 3+ hours of time to do something else.

Michael you always generate some interesting comments. I enjoyed watching the show basically to see if all the awards would go to one film or be spread around. I have seen many of the films and some I have not I would now like to see. It would be good if the show could be shorter though.

I taped the show and regret that I do not possess the knowledge of how to extend the time. But I was very happy with the show this year. Much diversity and about time.

The opening was spectacular and I absolutely loved loved loved it. No introduction, no welcome to the Oscars, just WE WILL WE WILL ROCK YOU!!! It was gorgeous!!!

Michael Jacobs I don't have any desire to watch the oscars and honestly never really did.  And now more than ever as I don't need a bunch of actors telling me how I should think or be. So done with that whole craziness!!

I did, fine Sir, enjoy your quotes and thoughts!

Debe Maxwell, CRS -- predicting that the Academy Awards television ceremony was going to run longer than planned was not much of a risk.  As far as the Lady GaGa-Bradley Cooper moment...let's hear it for sequels.  Give the crowd what it wants.

Endre Barath, Jr. - I read some opposing views on the host/no-host in place.  I think the flow with the off-stage announcement was fine.  By the way, Jeff Bridges won the Cecil B DeMille award -- get this -- it was presented at the Golden Globes ceremony this year.

And, that they certainly did, Michael! As you have heard, it's been the 'talk of the nation' this week! ;-)

James Dray - and that is prediction that even Carnac the Magnificent can be sure of being right.

Carol Williams -- you may change your mind as I understand there is a proposal for the celebrities to bring their golf clubs and appropriate gear next year.  Oh, the follow-through...

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 -- the original idea of the Academy Awards as I understand it was to promote the film industry and get people excited about going to the movies.  At least that's how I still see it.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents -- the Academy Awards ceremony is a "easy hit" for many to oppose but it seems this year was a reflection of how the industry is changing and how our country evolves too.  I still can't believe though that the Mr Rogers documentary wasn't even nominated.  Oh, well.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 - I understand.  Thank you for those kind words.  I promise not to have the conductor playing the "wrap up" music while you speak.

I LOVED it. I thought they handled the "no host" thing great and enjoyed seeing the extra faces this year. The opening number with Queen and Adam Lambert was awesome and the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga number was amazing.

I had the tv on most of the afternoon while doing stuff around the house and I was very surprised how early people start to arrive. I had no idea that people are walking the carpet 5 hours before it starts on tv!

Yes, I agree, Mr. Rogers was robbed. Shoulda won. I have a whole new admiration for what he accomplished.

As for Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, I felt the stage points and production was so carefully choreographed, and the looks they gave each other seemed like they were just trying to stay "on mark." In fact, I wondered to myself if they were even speaking after the bad reviews and whatnot of the movie.

Sharon Tara -- I agree with you regarding the lack of host.  The flow was not an issue for me.

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - Free Solo the winning documentary is on my list to see.  I thought after Mr Rogers was eliminated from competition, that RBG would win so was surprised to see it lose.  As far as A Star is Born -- I thought it was okay---maybe better than a TV "movie of the week".  I walked out of theater after it was over and thought good song but I didn't think of it as award-worthy otherwise.

Michael, totally forgot this was on until something popped up on Alexa at 7pm that it was on (thank God for her). I missed all of the STUFF beforehand, which is part of my eyecandy moments of the day/year.

I remember that Julia Roberts comment! Love her so. She's one of the rare genuine ones.

Hi Michael Jacobs - I watched the whole show. The 3 Ladies were entertaining but I was glad when they sat down and the real show began. In my opinion, if the hosts continue, they should have less time and if they are worthy of having more time, as they have had in the past, then they need their own Oscars for Hosting a variety of different show, separate from Oscars.

I really wanted to see Green Books but never had a chance. I did see A Star is Born and was very impressed with Bradly Cooper, Lady Gaga, and Sam Elliott! I was hoping they all would have won an award, especially Sam.

Overall, I wasn't all that impressed but I thought it was better than last year.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - I would imagine Green Book will have a another run in the theaters after its Oscar wins.  Although streaming or video may be an option(now or soon) I prefer the theater.

I liked it - and enjoyed every moment. Movies are a wonderful escape. They can also be very enlightening and educational and disturbing. It doesn't bug me...I take it for what it is and appreciate the talent that goes into it all. My fav didn't win, but it's okay. Some folks, like those in real life, need copious amounts of attention, others prefer to hang in the back and offer support. Who we identify with is very personal and subjective.

As for the Gaga/Cooper song - magnificent chemistry. Are they acting? Who the hell cares - it was a beautiful and intimate moment singing a a great song. Glad we got to see it.
