The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
Does anyone else 5-4-3-2-1 their ass out of bed every morning? After reading this book, I am. Bright and early. Well, this time of year, maybe not so bright - but early!
Before I dive into the book, I first have to mention where I heard about it - Compass South has a monthly online book club - they choose a book for the month, and once a month, grab the book, grab a drink, and discuss via facebook live - if you'd like to join the fun (I highly recommend you do!), here's a screen shot of where to find Compass South:
This book focuses on the premise of positive decision making. In 5 seconds or less. The basic idea is that when you're faced with poor habits or decisions that can make or break your life and confidence, you countdown in your head - 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ACT!
Hesitant to make that sales call? Afraid to talk with that person that you want to? Have missed (or better put, avoided) opportunities added up to a lot of missed potential? Well, the 5 second rule can help you get passed the things that have held you back, and can open the door to better habits, more productivity, and in the big picture, a wildly more successful life.
Did you know an extra half hour each day of not hitting snooze will add up to 76 DAYS worth of productivity over 10 years that the person snoozing daily will never see? Think that will give you an edge? You bet it will!
Throughout the book there are real life examples of how people have used the 5 second rule to change their lives, and the book dives into the science and psychology behind the rule, and how you can apply it broadly to improve many areas of life. You, too, can beat procrastination, increase productivity, become more confident, make more money, pursue your dreams, and discover your greatness - 5 seconds at a time.
Sound like I'm exaggerating? Well, read the book, and by the time you read to the back cover, let me know if you don't feel you can take over the world one 5-second decision at a time.
