The Newest Member of our Family
I just wanted to share our newest member of our family with you . Her name is Wanda. She is a 7 week old boxer! We just picked her up from a family who lives in Fernley, a town just outside of Sparks, NV where we live.
Wanda is the result of an ongoing three year old bet my husband had with our eleven year old son, Alec. The bet was that when Alec hit his first home run, he could get a puppy of his choosing. And, yep, you guessed it, he hit his first home run this year.
Alec plays on the major Astro team in the Spanish Springs Cal Ripken Baseball League. The fence in our league is 230 feet. For those of you with children in little league, you probably know this is a big deal. I only know this because my son is constantly telling me it is.
The other dog in the picture is my 13 year old baby German Shorthair Pointer, Tiller. He is our first dog and was part of the family before Alec and his twin sister, Kenna came along. Alec and Kenna both wanted to experience raising a puppy (little did they realize what was involved in the puppy training process) and somehow the homerun bet came to be.
Unfortunately, Tiller somehow became a lap dog and was unable to hunt! He wanted to ride on the quad instead of being a good pointer. Oops!
So here are a few pictures of Tiller and Wanda. Enjoy and have a great week.

Oh my goodness Wanda you are adorable! I just love the third photo where they are hugging! We just lost our 16 year old last week and our three little puppies really miss him. Congrat's on your new addition. Kym
Kym - Thank you! Tiller is actually trying to ignore Wanda. Kind of difficult, she is always on his face. I am sorry to hear about your loss....

How cute!!! My italian greyhound was raised with boxers and he can't stand them!! He can even identify them as babies! My other italian greyhound would love to play with him and roll him around in the grass!
Renee - Are Italian Greyhounds a smaller version to the "racing" greyhounds. There are a couple of the smaller ones in my neighborhood. Anyway, thanks for sharing and have a great day.
Terrie, Wanda is just the cutest!!! Boxer is my choice of breed... So far my Akita -SUNSET- 10 years old is very possessive of me, and doesn't get along with other dogs... SUNSET is very close to her friends: cat (maincoon) and bird (cockatoo) but there stops her circle of friends.
Wanda is such an adorable little thing! Our boxer mix is 8 years old, and he is just the biggest baby ever! Congrats to your son for hitting his home run and claiming his "prize" :)
Arina - Sunset sounds a lot like my other dog - He really prefers people - but I am happy to report he no longer growls when Wanda gets to close. Baby steps!
Jim & Maria - I am glad to hear you say your 8 year old boxer mix is a baby - we are hoping Wanda is the same. Thanks.
Terrie
Chris - I really wanted to get another pointer but we moved and our yard is a lot smaller than the old one and I know how much room pointers need, hopefully, Wanda will be fine.
Wanda - I bet Tiller will be a great teacher. We had an older Rhodesian Ridgeback (male) and adopted a young female retired racing greyhound. The Ridgeback adopted the greyhound and taught her how to be a pet. She followed him everywhere and did everything he did. It made training so easy. I bet you find the same situation with your sweeties.
Robin - They are starting to get use to each other and hopefully she will pick up all of Tiller's good habits, unfortuanltely he has a few bad one's she will probably pick up as well. Oh well. They are dong great. Thank you for stopping by.
Congrats and good luck. Puppies are so much fun, enjoy, they grow too quickly
Patrice - Thanks for the reminder, she is a lot of work right now. Bus, oh so sweet.
