Port Orange Florida is home to one of the most beautiful parks in the area, known as Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens.
One of the most striking features of the park, is this amazing tree. This is the Conferate Oak, a magnificent tree located in the Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens in Port Orange Florida. This amazing tree is known as the Confederate Oak because according to legend, Confederate Soldiers frequently camped under it.
The Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens are located within walking distance of my home and I frequently walk there to relax and admire nature and the beauty of this park.
Also in the park are the ruins of the Dunlawton Sugar Factory, ruins of Bongoland which was an amusement park in the 50's, and there is also a Human Sundial. The park is beautiful year round and abundant with native tropical plants and foliage. The sounds of birds, and trickling water as you stroll through the park and lovely grounds. There is also a wedding chapel where you can get married amidst all of this beauty.
I love that I live close enough to take advantage of this beautiful park and this natural treasure anytime I want. This is one of my favorite spots here in Florida.
The Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens & park is maintained mainly by volunteers and donations. The Dunlawton Sugar Factory ruins are a protected Archaeological Area and Florida Historical Commission.
