"The Best Rock Musicians Are The Most Exciting
People In The World"
--- John Daly
Whenever I need a pick-me-up, I like to visit Half Price Books located at 5803 E. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75214. This is one of the largest Half Price Book locations that I know of in the DFW area. This past Sunday a group of musicians, mainly all strings got together and did a round table, taking turns, each choosing a song, plucking their guitars, bass, banjo, harpsichord, violin, ukelele, and/or drums to start an old familiar good old rock song while others joined in and they sang too! There wasn't one song I didn't know. I counted 23 musicians and boy were they great!!!
I was one of many who grabbed a seat to listen and browse through a pile of books I considered buying. I thought I was just going to be there for a few minutes. I ended up staying there for three and a half hours. Everyone was nodding their heads or tapping their feet to the music. That's how good they were! Inside the Half Price Cafe, the coffee grinder was grinding and the smell of coffee filled the room. Many people continued to wander in to listen too. There was room for everyone!
Music is a great way to connect with other people. In the photo on the top left was the section of books from various wars. All I kept thinking of was "Make love, not war." This group of musicians was the generation that remembered Vietnam. And the guitar player sitting in front of me had his binder of music open with a cover that said The Beatles. It is amazing how Rock N Roll songs drift in and out of our lives, like snowflakes that seemed to fill the airwaves on cold winter nights from long, long ago. Truly, Rock N Roll IS here to stay!
