Yes! You DO have time to take care of yourself

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Pareto Realty TN #251071

Because we consider ourselves to be “in Service to others”, sometimes we forget to tend to our own needs.

We let our busyness take control of our lives . . . and we say that we are “too busy” to attend to Spiritual, Emotional, Physical, Social, and Mental well being.

Don’t do this!

Schedule your “me time” before you schedule ANYTHING else.

Every day, block time on your calendar – a firm and very important “daily appointment with yourself.”

Tell everyone you know, that you are not available to take calls or respond to texts or emails during that block of time.

No apologies necessary!

No need to call it something else . . . Just tell’m what it is (Me Time), and do it.

WE need you to do this, so you can serve us better.

This is an important message, Barry.  If we don't take care of ourselves, eventually our ability to be of any service to others will dwindle and die.

Those are words full of truth, Barry.  Several years ago, I went 241 days without a day off.  I was feeling overwhelmed, burned out, and a little depressed.  I looked at the calendar, and scheduled a day that was about 10 days in the future to just stay home and cry.  I was really upset when the day finally arrived, and I was in an exceptionally good mood.  I tried much of the day just trying eek out one single tear!

Great cartoon and quote from Jim Rohn, I remember hearing him say that in a talk. It seems everything I am reading today is about taking care of yourself and reducing stress. Especially good as I took some time tomorrow to go hiking with a friend. So, I was feeling a little guilty, but now I am realizing it is something that will help me.

Hi Barry, I am glad Carol Williams featured your post. I agree with you entirely. I schedule Me time mentally, now it will be even easier not to reschedule it, when I actually put it on my calendar.

Hello Barry   ME TIME, is so important, my wife and friends have to remind me about this sometimes.  I always take off the first Thurday and Friday of March Madness and invite frients to a sports bar all day.  I start out with just O. J. for 5 hours befoe I have a real drink but it is my tradition for over 12 years.

Hi Barry:

This is such a good reminder for us all. I could improve in this area but am getting better about putting those ME times (which of course includes personal appointments, the gym, and family) on the calendar.

Such an important topic. I've scheduled my day so, 30 minutes after I wake at 5:30 I take an hour for yoga at home, meditation and a 20-40 minute walk. Then breakfast, emails, educations/motivational reading, shower and dress. By 9:00 AM I tackle the day. It's amazing how much more productive I am with this schedule, and how much less I stress about the small stuff.

Barry, what a great point to drive home.  You know I still struggle with this even at my age.  I have learned that I can say "I am booked for that time" and the appointment can be with myself and my family. Yes  we are entitled to a life, we just need to schedule it. .thanks for the reminder.

For me, time management is essential, so, beginning with spiritual time,  physical activity and health time, family time,  including sleep or rest time and whatever is left goes toward income time.

Unfortunately many can't act in that order because priorities of time is selective and different with everyone. For me, taking care of one, two and three will result in a successful and enjoyable lifestyle.

This should have gotten more "likes" by now...but I guess AR members may be "too busy."      I think making "me time" a priority is brilliant advice, personally.    Thank you!
