Photos of Anza Borrego State Park Visitor's Center

By

The first day we arrived in Borrego Springs, we tried to visit the Anza Borrego State Park Visitor's Center to no avail. Because it was a Sunday. That place was packed without any spare parking places. Bumper-to-bumper cars and traffic in this small desert town. Tourists everywhere. Pulling off the road to join long lines of vehicles as nature enthusiasts descended upon open fields after fields of wildflowers in bloom.

That's why we decided to visit the Super Bloom there on Monday, when many tourists had gone home. We drove the opposite direction to Salton Sea that day, and visited Fonts Point on our way back to Borrego Springs.

But on Monday, the real fun began. You can read more and see a boatload of photos of the visitor's center in my personal blog today at this link: Photos of Wildflowers from Anza Borrego State Park.

Good morning, Elizabeth - and the terrific photos keep coming.  Now if you could perfect that Tennessee ya'll and Howdy you might be able to get that job at PBS assuming the role of Huell Howser who as a non-native showed off California so well.

The desert is an amazing place. One of the most amazing aspects is the way golf courses just sprung up out of nowhere.

An amazing photo tour, Elizabeth... felt like I was right there with you. And having seen the desert in the Gulf where nothing like this blooms, it's interesting to see the contrast.

Joseph Domino 480-390-6011 Hey, I know what you mean. One day no golf course and the next we've got Anza Country Club in the middle of nowhere! I do have a photo of that in the mix on my website. We went there for lunch when everything in town was packed. I suggested it as a possibilty and my husband said, name 3 country clubs where you've enjoyed lunch. And I did.

Sheila Anderson Yeah, we were late to Death Valley a few years ago to view the wildflowers there, but I booked this trip while I was still in Hawaii. Reservations go fast in March. Ran into a woman from SF who had to take a room in Julian some 30 miles away, which is like an hour.

Nina Hollander Our California deserts are interesting. Not at all like miles and miles of nothing but sand dunes. I can see why our Native Americans considered it sacred.

Hi Elizabeth,  Thanks so much for sharing these beautiful photos.  This world is amazing, if we only take the time to stop and notice and appreciate it.

Kathy Streib The funny thing is as a kid, I never visited state or national parks so I had no idea what they were. I thought they consisted of grass and a few picnic tables. Took even me a while to realize they were stupendous miracles in nature featuring such extraordinary elements.

Endre Barath, Jr. Going to see fields of poppies seems like an enormously worthwhile goal for Sunday. Congratulations to you and Diane . . . and the entire family who deserve to go, too.

What a wonderful get-away. Wildflowers are an amazing gift of Spring, and it's especially cool how they vary to wildly from region to region.

On another note, my sis and her hubby are taking off at the end of August through November to tour as many National parks as they can...in their large RV. The RV part doesn't appeal to me, but the national parks visits certainly do.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD That's a good time of the year. We visited Yellowstone one year during the last week of the season, and it was amazingly quiet.
