Opening The Next Chapter
It’s a regular occurrence that I get calls asking to meet for coffee to talk about joining ABC brokerage. That’s not because I’m special, it’s simply because I sell a reasonable amount of real estate and can add to and offices bottom line. I get it. My favorite calls are when they start with Amanda are you unhappy with your broker? Ummm yes, somedays I’m not happy with myself but, no not enough to get rid of my own brokerage. They're not genuine calls, I'm just a number and that doesn't align with what I believe in.
I’ve been running as hard and as fast as I possibly can since becoming a broker-owner in 2012. I went the brick and mortar expansion route in 2015. I wanted to scale and my plan was adding agents to my team so that I could leverage myself and sell more real estate with the goal of eventually stepping out of my business. What I really created was a business I could never step away from, much less out of and each time I tried it wasn’t long before it was clear there wasn’t much if any profit if I wasn’t selling.
When I was away for a few days on “vacation” last year (i.e. working from a different location) and got a frantic call from one of my agents that needed me to talk to his client at 9pm it dawned on me that no matter how many times I changed my business plan it was flawed. I’d tear it down and rebuild it but, at no point did any of my changes ever make it scalable. Not even close. Every time I tried to step out of my business or in this case even step away for a few days I was pulled back in, I had no choice but, to keep running at 150% every day and I started to feel like a hamster on a wheel.
I knew there had to be a better way, I just didn’t know what it was. I'd been thinking about what direction I could go in for months and then I woke up to an email from fellow AR member Sally Hanson. I knew the name eXp Realty and that they were a cloud-based brokerage but, that was the extent of my knowledge. Her email shared a little about the company and asked if I’d be open to learning more. What a novel idea to just ask if I’d be open to knowing more!
She really took the time to get to know me, my business, and see if it was the right fit. There was no pressure or sales pitch whatsoever. She answered a million and one questions and let me take the time I needed to make my decision. This is a change that has been in the works for months and I’m so excited to finally be able to announce I’ve aligned with eXp Realty! I feel rejuvenated and I’m excited to start this next chapter and see where it takes us!
Sally and David – I owe you a HUGE thank you for reaching out to me about it. THANK YOU! I’m looking forward to our adventures!
