Becoming Immune to Telemarketers and Time Wasters

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

In the olden days, like a dozen years ago, my demeanor was a lot more polite than it is now. When I answered my phone, I would engage in a conversation with whomever was on the other end of the phone. If I received a telemarketing call, I asked nicely to be removed. Explained I had no interest in their product or I was being better served elsewhere. Probably my Midwestern upbringing.

Today, however, I have no patience for that crap. The people who irritate me most are usually mortgage brokers, just calling to congratulate me on my remarkable success as though I had no idea of what I have accomplished or that I would welcome the advances of a new mortgage broker searching for business, NOT.

There is only one solution. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: Damned If You Do and Damned If You Don't.

There was a time when I was too polite to simply hang up on a telemarketing call.  However, I have developed the hide of rhinoceros where they are concerned.  You know that little sound, "Vrrroooop" that often precedes recorded messages?  I hang up before it even ends now.  Yesterday, I heard from the IRS who was sending law enforcement to my house.  The day before it was Microsoft "Windows" wanting access to my computer, in addition to a recorded message from a back brace company who said I could receive a device via Medicare.  I don't even have a back problem, and no, I hadn't contacted them before in regards to one!

HI Elizabeth... I feel your pain. And what irritates me most are those who just keep talking after you've said you're not interested and to take you off their list. I've had some afternoons where a dozen or more such calls come in. Now many of them have started texting. I've become very familiar with the block feature on my phone! Sort of like the delete button on my computer for spam emails.

Don't hear from too many mortgage brokers, but have been inundated with calls from Social Security (oh sure) telling me my social security payments are being stopped and my number frozen. And I'm not even due to receive my first payment till next month, as I waited as long as possible to take social security.

Hello Elizabeth - I have no problem simply hanging up when I can first identify the caller as someone I don't want to continue a "conversation".

Hi Elizabeth- I tell them that I am not interested and then politely hang up. And then I do as you do, I block their number. What I hate are the ones who start out as if they are inquiring about your service then try to sell you something.

Morning Elizabeth.

These days if I don't recognize the number I don't answer.   Besides I don't know anyone in Colorado Springs, CO., Murrieta, GA., New Orleans etc.  You get the idea.

Hi Elizabeth, the other day, I was in a “love the universe” mood when I got yet another call. I was extremely kind as I told him to have a wonderful weekend, hope you find another job that doesn’t make you a pest, and please lose my number. He laughed and hung up.
