Whether you're moving to Kelowna or you're wondering about the draws of the area, you should know about Big White. Big White Ski Resort is a popular attraction for those who love the powder. As an internationally renowned destination for skiing and snowboarding, Big White offers one of the best winter sports settings in the Okanagan Valley. Here's why Big White might be something worth relocating for.

All About Big White Ski Resort

Known as Big White, this ski resort is a fantastic destination for those who love to get out into the snow and take a ride. Located 56 kilometres from the city of Kelowna and in operation since 1963, Big White is the highest peak in the Okanagan Highland and the second largest skiing resort in the province of British Columbia (after the famed Whistler-Blackcomb). Not only can Big White be enjoyed during the day, but it also features Western Canada's largest area for night skiing with 150,000 square meters (in Imperial, that’s 1.6 million square feet) to plod on. Much like other ski resorts, Big White also features its very own skiing village complete with hotel accommodations, restaurants, bars and a variety of shopping locales.

Indulge in the Available Activities

With approximately 118 trails, more than 50 percent of the ski hill is dedicated to intermediate skiers, with a nearly equal amount of trails for beginner and expert class athletes. The hill features approximately 25 kilometres of Nordic trails that have been recently upgraded where people can enjoy snowshoeing, dogsledding and cross-country skiing. From beginner to advanced levels, the resort also features a multitude of programs to hone your skiing skills or start developing them. You can participate in a Ski and Snowboard School, which offers classes for all ages and skill levels or even participate in a teaching session with a private coach. From night skiing to programs for teens and children, there's no reason that the whole family can't get in on the sports of the season.

In Big White Village

Like most ski resorts, Big White also features its own central village with a multitude of places to wind down after a long day of scaling the hill. While the Big White village area isn't as large as Whistler's village, it features a number of hotels, condo complexes and even a hostel! If you're not in the mood for skiing, you can make a visit to the Village Centre mall for some shopping, where you can take the kids to the Loose Moose Emporium or visit Envy for new designer clothes. The village also features a variety of restaurants and pubs where you can enjoy a hot meal after a day of skiing. Consider Kettle Valley Steakhouse for a nice dinner or head to The Blarney Stone Irish Tavern to toast the day. If you feel like being inside for the night, you can also opt for a visit to the grocery and liquor stores to tide you over until the morning.
