In the hills that I hike within, the trails are often well marked and there are even signs to direct you from one trail to another. Of course, that doesn't mean that we don't get off trail sometimes and follow markings from previous hikers to find new adventures!

Hi Brian England - In Sedona, you can get your hand slapped if you go off the trail. I think there are different rules for guides.
