What is your FROG?

By
Education & Training with State Farm Insurance

Brian Tracy wrote a great piece called 'Eat That Frog: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time' available FREE on GOOGLE BOOKS

Here's how he puts it:

There’s an old saying that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that it’s probably the worst thing you’ll do all day. Using “eat that frog” as a metaphor for tackling the most challenging task of your day- the one you are most likely to procrastinate on, but also probably the one that can have the greatest positive impact on your life. Eat That Frog shows you how to zero in on these critical tasks and organize your day. You’ll not only get more done faster, but get the right things done.

My "FROG" is making my calls to my List of Relationships.  Other things just seem to get in the way and being basically an introvert of sorts, it's the one of the least favorite of my activities.

BUT ITS ALSO ONE OF THE MOST PRODUCTIVE!
(I'll share my "solution" in my next post after we get a few good DISCUSSION DAYS on this question.)

My question for this esteemed group is....

What is your frog? How have you solved (or tried to solve) getting over that daily hurdle?

Post your "frog" in the comments and let's get some discussion going on how we can best

EAT THAT FROG!!!!

What a great expression!  How true it is, if we get up and do the most dreaded thing the day is much more satisfying for having done so...

Yes so true... my frog is processing all of my own files.  I wish I had a processor to assist me in the paperwork stuff so I could spend more time getting more loans in the pipeline and networking.

Naoma,
You got me to thinking about your processing FROG.  I know a processor here in San Diego and I'm sure there are some in your area as well.  I think there's also VIRTUAL PROCESSORS (they can work with you from anyplace)

I know for me, when I was hiring people to help me I couldn't do it all at once.

Have you considered maybe doing your first file or two each month yourself and jobbing out those beyond that?  Or maybe just doing one per month that would buy you (I'm not sure how many) hours that you could devote to prospecting and networking....???  Sometimes "small beginnings" can lead to great endings.... :)

Dennis - I heard Zig Ziglar make this analogy about ten years ago during a live talk that he gave here in Austin.  He also mentioned, "If you have to eat a frog, you don't want to look at it all day on your desk.  Just get it over with and out of the way."

Thank goodness I don't have many frogs right now.  They jump in and out of my life. I heard this from Zig, too:)  Good stuff!  Sometimes we struggle with easy things and this post helps us to deal with them, easy or difficult.  Nice job, Dennis!

Hi Dennis,

Personally my frog is exercising.  If I don't get it done first thing, I don't get it done at all.

On the business side, it's the calls for me too!  My plan is to make those calls in the morning as well.

With my two biggest hurdles out of the way, I truly feel like I've accomplished a lot.

Nancy,

I'm with you! It seems to be that the morning time is where I have the most control over MY activities.  If I plan and execute well then, the rest of the day is a bonus!        dv

I think my problem is I have several 10 pound frogs and maybe a couple of 15 pounders.  Heck, maybe If I throw down a couple of 3/4 ouncers first, disect the larger ones and just swallow them a pound at a time without thinking about it.

Seriously now, probably is best to get the worst over asap, feel like you accomplished something, and then attack your day.
