"I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me"
Chorus:
"I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me"

I wrapped up the day at the Dallas Arboretum enjoying the bronze statues in the park. And there I sat, thinking about life in general. As a kid, I didn't care where I lived, how many rooms we had, the size of my bedroom that I shared with my sisters, what our kitchen, bathroom, living room, or dining room looked like. I couldn't tell you whether or not my mother had china, Melmac dinner plates, or if we ate off of paper plates. All I really cared about was playing outdoors with my siblings and our friends. As kids, there wasn't anything we couldn't do. Lose a ball on top the roof, we climbed up there and got it. Watch a kid do a cartwheel, we all did cartwheels! See some kid ride roller skates down the sidewalk - we were all skating up and down the streets!
Our eyes were like magnets. In other words, we gravitated towards fun and developing skills without watching something like YouTube because nothing like that existed! Knives? I was probably the fastest kid on the block playing mumbly peg with a pocket knife and I whittled too! In my neighborhood, you didn't have to be a boy to play dangerous games or be a boy who wasn't allowed to play with dolls. The boys and girls in my neighborhood were treated as equals and nobody got into trouble or pregnant either. As kids, we lived, loved, and learned to play together without bullying, fighting, or pretending we were somebody else. Acceptance is a beautiful way to live. Children are natural born artists who have the potential to be creative. I do believe "The Children Are Our Future (The Greatest Love of All) is something to pay attention to (whether you have kids or not) whenever you buy or rent a home.
