Sacramento's Secret Homes for Sale and Ring.Com

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

In our days of limited inventory this spring, it is not unusual for homes to sell that are not listed in MLS. We all need to be creative to continue to prosper in challenging times. I thought of this today as I struggled speaking with customer service reps. Dealing with CSR anywhere is pretty much a PITA because you've got some guy either working in a boiler room or across the globe. Not a person who works inside the company and knows what's going on.

Turns out because I had bought two Ring Doorbells, the original (which was a piece of crap and resulted in the need to purchase an upgraded model) and the Ring Doorbell 2, which works like the original was advertised to work but doesn't. That little maneuver royally screwed up Ring.com's bookkeeping, to hear them tell it. I had changed my credit card for billing after my trial period and their system has the three-digit code on the same field line as the ZIP so the ZIP was omitted and they could not process my card.

Ring.com said they could not fix it because it meant my card would be charged, which is incorrect billing. I have no amount due. Apparently, I have no billing due because I started the second free trial, which ends around Christmas. The CSR said I needed to wait until I received a total of 4 rejected emails of futile attempts before they could straighten it out. And that could take another week or so to generate.

Seriously? Yes, their software can't handle it.

I asked for a supervisor and asked him to pull my card, enter the correct information and when the charge shows up, I will call him to remove it. That was actually the easiest solution. Believe it or not.

Well, on to Sacramento's secret homes for sale. That inventory that would sell if it was for sale and how to find it. My partner JaCi tackles this topic in our personal blog today at this link: How to Find Sacramento's Hidden Inventory Pocket Listings.

Love the trials and tribulations dealing with simple minded or should I say robot minded customer service.... just on a side note not so sure if the Ring is worth the money... I see people posting on Next Door photos of the burglars and the Police does nothing about it. So with that said if I had the Ring all it would do is piss me off that I got  burglarized then to boot the police would not do anything... so with that said no ring for me:)Endre

With so many Ring videos being uploaded to NextDoor and Youtube, to help identify porch pirates, I had hoped a measure of protection would be provided by the product.  It's sad to hear their customer service isn't up to snuff, however.

Good morning, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Realtor Top 1% congratulations on your latest sale of a "pocket listing".... our definition of a pocket listing is one that is NOT in MLS because it's not to be cobroked!!!  we put everything in MLS and agents always call us to see what we have coming on MLS... we always have a listing signed one week in advance and do "coming soon" posts....we want as much activity that first day as possible to get it sold for full list or better with a clean deal the very first day.... we've been very successful at that and "listings beget more listings"....

Sounds like another frustrating customer service experience with Ring. No thanks. As for the pocket listing, congratulations. Almost a secret "make me move," scenario. Glad it worked out for all.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Realtor Top 1%, I decided not to get Ring after I heard several stories from unsatisfied customers. I've sold a few pocket listings long time ago when it was an extreme seller's market for our market place. Each one made my buyer clients very happy.

Endre Barath, Jr. Have you considered moving to a better neighborhood? And kudos to YOU for having the bravery to withstand the crap spewed on NextDoor. BTW, the police asked for a video from my Ring App when my neighbor's car was broken into (left unlocked).

Myrl Jeffcoat I imagine just having a Ring doorbell prevents more break-ins. Thieves seem opposed to videotaping themselves. As for the Ring Corporation itself, it really has a good product if it could just fix its internal software issues.

Barbara Todaro Well, in California, we welcome, for the most part, co-brokering on a pocket listing. I suppose some agents don't but those guys don't stay in the business for very long or do much volume.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD Very glad it all worked out, too. Just wish Ring.com wasn't so messed up. The app works more of the time than it does not. But that could be Hawaii-related, too. I could not catch the UPS man when the Ring app notified me he was at our front gate in Hawaii, and I was in Sacramento. By the time the video transferred, the UPS guy was back in his truck.

Beth Atalay The problem with the Ring Doorbell is the original Ring product is crap. They made a Ring Doorbell 2, and that works pretty well, plus it came with an indoor chime. It doesn't pick up nearly as much movement as the original model, and both are set not to tape further than 5 feet, but they still tape cars 30 feet away.

It works for me because my front yard is gated, but I don't hear the gate when somebody opens it. This way they can ring my doorbell instead. It also records anybody who enters my yard. Even my next-door neighbor when he leaped over my gate because I had locked it.

Hi Elizabeth- sorry you've had trouble with your Ring doorbell. I am satisfied with ours except when I try to answer it in real time depending upon the connection, I may not get connected. I do like that it lets me know who has been at our door.

Kathy Streib Yes, except for when you try to use it for the purpose for which it is intended, such as answring your doorbell remotely, it doesn't always deliver. But we put up with crappy technology because that's how it is.

Endre Barath, Jr. Just sayin' I would be uncomfortable living in an area where 1) my neighbors' homes were routinely robbed and 2) my neighbors had to beg the public for help because 3) the police don't care.

Have you ever considered those ramifications?

Just to be clear Elizabeth, Los Angeles is a big city, just like New York and Chicago.... crime and police exist every where would you believe it even in Beverly Hills.... so with that said we like the big city life and in 22 years we gratefully never had a problem, Endre
