Almost Speechless Sunday: Nasturtiums Zing!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

Nasturtiums are known as an edible flower.  We first saw them added to salads in France.  They added a bit of zing and looked beautiful.  The flowers add a peppery taste, as do the young leaves. We recently learned that a combination of nasturtium leaves and flowers make a delightful pesto.  Check out this recipe.  They are also easy to grow and do well in sun and shade.

Happy Sunday, wishing you a great week ahead.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel nasturtiums zing is very nice flower, and should taste good in salad.

When I was a kid we had an old whiskey barrel planted with Nasturtiums.  I remember my little nephew calling them, "Nastyurchins."

Myrl Jeffcoat the genus of the word nasturtium means "twisted nose"...sort of like your nose out of joint.  I love your mom's pronunciation.  A

We love them. Bernie is planting them around our garden this year. One year I had two huge baskets of the trailing nasturtiums hanging in the garden... they were beautiful...until the aphids attacked. But then, that's one of the jobs of being a nasturtium in a veggie garden.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I had no idea that nasturtiums attracted aphids.  I use to buy boxes of lady bugs for my rose garden, and that worked just fine.  I also saw at the nursery praying mantis eggs that have over 4000 creatures.  There is a certain timing to releasing them otherwise they cannibalize...They let them loose in the nursery, which is why their plants look so good...A

Hi Ron and Alexandra- I haven't heard of these flowers in years. I read Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD comment as well as yours and it's interesting how Mother Nature sees to it that her plants and insects work in harmony.

Hi Ron and Alexandra,  It's not often that we can grow something this pleasing to the eye and to the pallet.  I'm thinking about planting some this year.

Hmm, I have never heard of that, but I would certainly add it to my salads for a nice peppery taste.

Brian England not only are nasturtiums tasty, but they are beautiful in a salad.  And they match your shirt!
