Real Estate Marketing: Advertising As Theater-Are You Buying Tickets?

By

In marketing luxury real estate the competition for attention is fierce. All global luxury businesses are facing the same phenomenon: the shrinking attention span of customers.

That is why it is more important than ever to pay attention to your personal and company branding, your own packaging and the way you package listings, How can you expect to hold the attention of your target market if you do not capture it in the first place?

The media of streaming video has become mainstream. Digital video advertising has just overtaken traditional advertising. (TV, radio, print)) in revenue.Paying attention to the hits and misses of how the global luxury brands incorporate video in their storefronts on Rodeo Drive and other high end retail streets around the world can offer some clues.

Take a look at this one minute video below. It shows some eye-catching use of videos. But, is it drawing customers into the stores? That is the big question. Advertising is becoming theater. Are you buying tickets?

Gene,

Precisely what we think, is how will that sell the product.  There is in marketing a concept known as peripheral marketing.  It has to be well done.  For instance if you are a fan of a coffee establishment, they usually have coffee related stuff for sale, even though their main business is handing out drinks.  That is peripheral marketing.  It fits with their main business.  I plan to do posts on that in the near future.  A

Last evening I rewatched a favorite movie titled, "The Hundred Foot Journey." The flick is about an Indian guy who is an amazing cook.  He has learned to use spices like so many Indians do.  However, he goes off to Paris to a cooking school where they are using science in an attempt to entice taste buds.  What the food there lacks is soul.  I think the marketing industry may be on that same road.  Like you say, "The realm of the absurd."

Those are some great uses of video, not sure they would draw me into a store that I wouldn't otherwise be entering, but it would indeed catch my eye.

Myrl Jeffcoat We LOVED this movie.  It was brilliant!  Coincidentally we saw Helen Mirren (she has a home in SB) shopping at Trader Joes with requisite scarf and big sunglasses.  We just smiled and did nto say a word.

Thank you for the feature.  Ron appreciates it.  A

Brian England we agree with you, and it does not make me walk into a store, even 3 years ago when we first saw this in Milan, Italy.  A

Michael Jacobs it has been a while since Ron wrote a post.  He has been busy on a big project, so I have taken up the slack.  He was inspired by our Rodeo walk and created the video in an hour (a record for him) and subsequently wrote the post in a half an hour.  Like you, I loved the title...cleverness runs in the family! LOL A

Hi Ron and Alexandra- My thought is that where videos were once rare so you and I might stop to look at them, now they're everywhere. It's as if our sense are bombarded with them. I tune them out.

While videos are starting to appear, there are still a host of agents who have not posted any. Pity

ah, the shrinking attention span.  again, because there is just 'too much' out there.  so you have to resort to all sorts of theater to get people to get interested, to buy, etc.  see getups in the current NY galas, the outfits of musical groups.  very tough to get noticed.  thanks A

That's a pretty strong message in your video, Ron.

Marketing videos for sure can grab attention, but of course you want that to lead to a sale, too. And you want that attention for the right reasons!

John Henry It was fun when it all began.  We were seeing incredible creativity, because the brands bought great filmakers...but we are all victims of attention deficit because we are constantly bombarded by messaging.  A
