Why is it important to treat others the way you want to be treated? My take is that, the results tend to have a more favorable outcome.
If the ride is bumpy or smooth, the finish often can make or break a continued long-term relationship. In my experience as a Beverly Hills Realtor, if we ended with a smooth finish the clients remained long-term clients. On the other hand, if the ending was not smooth, we did not get referrals, nor accolades, even if it was not our fault.
As some of you who have been reading my post about my Lexus RX 350 know, that I had to go to the dealership. Now with that said, let me continue the story since Debra Leisek was very interested how it turned out.
I bought the car in 2014, the salesperson was very nice and programed into the navigation the location of the Dealership where the Maintenance Shop, which was attached, to the dealership. Can you imagine my surprise, when I got to the location, there was a sign on the door stating that, we have moved and a new address is...
The new location was back in the direction where I just came from, about a mile or so. In Beverly Hills traffic, that is about 15 minutes. Upon my arrival it was clear to me, that there was no Maintenance Shop, nor parking.
Gratefully since it was in Beverly Hills, CA., there was a Valet Person who informed me that the maintenance shop is not located here. He tried giving me directions, and I just did not feel confident, hence I asked for an actual address. He had no idea but asked some office employees who were returning from lunch and I saw they had no idea either.
The Valet Person was nice and went inside the show room and got me an address which was then corrected by a salesperson who came out and gave me a different address and at the same time tried to sell me a new Lexus…
Now, with the new location I was heading back about 1.5 miles to the Maintenance Department.
As I arrived, I did not see any signs, instead a Film Crew was filming a movie. So just to be safe in case the crew was blocking the signs I circled around the block again to no avail.
I called Diane for help. A phone call from her the mystery was solved. The location was not on Wilshire Blvd but rather on Olympic Blvd. Indeed, the number was right just the street name was off.
Upon arrival I was greeted by the Lexus Representative and I mentioned to him what my Mechanic thought was the problem. In the meantime, Diane emailed me that the Water pump is part of the Power Train which is covered for seven years and seventy thousand miles. I explained to the Lexus Rep that I just needed for them to fix it provided it is ‘free” and covered by the warranty. I casually slipped it out that Diane works for a Law Firm and her name is on the car as well, (even though she never drove it in five years).
After cordial discussions and an attempt to sell me four new tires to the tune of $1500-$1800 . It was clear that all I wanted was the problem to be fixed and at no charge to me. We agreed should that be the problem all would be taken care of.
Twenty minutes later I had a new Lexus loaner vehicle, complementary to me until the vehicle is fixed. Fast forward twenty-four hours later I found out the car was fixed and ready for me to have. Hence Saturday morning I was back at the Lexus Repair Shop picking up my car at no cost. I could write another post about the 24hrs… the main thing is I have my car back with a brand-new Water Pump and all the assembly parts with it at no cost to me. The outcome, I attribute to not losing my temper and being kind all the way until the finish line. Mainly being patient, kind and persevering until the desired result was achieved.
How was my experience? Well that is another story. It reconfirmed for me, that this is not how I would want to handle a Real Estate Transaction. The buyer or the seller should not have to call, text or email me for updates without a response. Instead I would want to give periodic updates and feedback how the transaction is moving along. I am confident most of you will agree with this concept.
