On May 15, 2019, National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) for newly built single family homes increased three points to 66 points in May of 2019 from 63 points in April of 2019.
The HMI component charting present sales conditions gained three points to 72 points, the HMI buyer traffic higher two points to 49 points, and the HMI sales expectations index up one point to 72 points in May of 2019.
The three-month moving averages for regional HMI scores, South gained one point to 68 points, the West rose two points to 71 points, Northeast jumped six points to 57 points, Midwest grew one point to 54 points in May of 2019.
NAHB Chief Economist Robert Dietz, stated “At the same time, builders continue to deal with ongoing labor and lot shortages and rising material costs that are holding back supply and harming affordability.”
