Haters will Broadcast Your Failure but Whisper Your Success
One of my dear friends - actually, the very first #1 in North Carolina on ActiveRain - recently ran for public office. As soon as she announced, I reached out to see how I could help her with her campaign - I adore her and would do anything in the world to help her.
Fast-forward just over a month, my friend didn't win the bid for the elected office. I personally don't feel that it was a total waste of time for her thought - she had wonderful RPAC support and spent a good chunk of change to advertise and got lots of great exposure. She did a wonderful job of advertising, ran a good, clean campaign and, as far as I'm concerned, shone an incredibly bright, positive light on our profession.
I remarked about my friend's campaign in a group of other local agents, many of whom I would consider to be personal friends of mine. I was quite surprised at the backlash about my friend's campaign - quite frankly, I was the only one in the group who supported her!
Seriously, comments were not at all what I would have expected from my peers about someone who has done SO much for our local and state associations, NAR, CRS and is well known all across the nation. Quite frankly, it was pure jealousy! In fact, one agent asked me specifically how I could support my peer - how stupid of me because I "sent business to her because I supported her!" According to one agent, my friend actually "cost all agents in our MLS business" because she ran for political office. Yes, that was actually said. To me. In a public forum.
Many quotes came to mind but, these two really hit home as I read all of the negativity. It's so true - if you shine, you're going to get a few rocks hurled at you!

Hence, the quote -
