This Week...Saying Goodbye to An Innocent Age
The three actors who passed away recently ...Doris Day, Tim Conway, and Peggy Lipton...all reminded me of a more innocent time.
I've never met an animal I didn't like, and I can't say the same thing about people. Doris Day
I have a feeling that most people under a certain age would laugh at listening to the dialogue between Doris Day and Rock Hudson. No four letter words, only innuendos.
I've never really taken anything very seriously. I enjoy life because I enjoy making other people enjoy it. Tim Conway
Tim Conway was part of that very special group of people on the Carol Burnett Show who brought us so much each week from the moment Carol tugged at her ear.
The change in our own innocence occurred around the time shows such as the Mod Squad appeared. When I started college I was still wearing skirts and blouses. During that first semester, I started wearing jeans, desert boots, a poncho and had long straight hair that covered big hoop earrings. My poor mother just shook her head.
I never had confidence - never. The hardest thing to know is your own worth, and it took me years and years to find out what mine is. Peggy Lipton
Of course, that was nothing compared to recent and current dress standards.
Loss of innocence is a bit bittersweet. We miss the simpler times and yet find that what that loss brings us can mean growth and a new adventure.
Have a beautiful weekend!
We've let the blade of our innocence dull over time, and it's only in innocence that you find any kind of magic, any kind of courage. Sean Penn
