This Week...Saying Goodbye to An Innocent Age

The three actors who passed away recently ...Doris Day, Tim Conway, and Peggy Lipton...all reminded me of a more innocent time.

I've never met an animal I didn't like, and I can't say the same thing about people. Doris Day

I have a feeling that most people under a certain age would laugh at listening to the dialogue between Doris Day and Rock Hudson. No four letter words, only innuendos.

I've never really taken anything very seriously. I enjoy life because I enjoy making other people enjoy it. Tim Conway

Tim Conway was part of that very special group of people on the Carol Burnett Show who brought us so much each week from the moment Carol tugged at her ear.

The change in our own innocence occurred around the time shows such as the Mod Squad appeared. When I started college I was still wearing skirts and blouses. During that first semester, I started wearing jeans, desert boots, a poncho and had long straight hair that covered big hoop earrings.  My poor mother just shook her head.

I never had confidence - never. The hardest thing to know is your own worth, and it took me years and years to find out what mine is. Peggy Lipton

Of course, that was nothing compared to recent and current dress standards.

Loss of innocence is a bit bittersweet. We miss the simpler times and yet find that what that loss brings us can mean growth and a new adventure.

Have a beautiful weekend!

We've let the blade of our innocence dull over time, and it's only in innocence that you find any kind of magic, any kind of courage. Sean Penn

Michael Jacobs remember that in the Dick Van Dyke Show, Dick and MTM had to sleep in twin beds. (so did Desi and Lucy.)

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® I wish that many more kids could have the kind of summers that we had...no school, endless swimming and play.

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI it's hard for me to pick just one favorite but I loved Mr Tudball and Mrs Wiggins.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I too had no idea that Peggy Lipton was 72!  Way too young. BTW- I thought for sure Portland had game #2 but we'll be cheering them on tonight.

Myrl Jeffcoat and of course we believed that all working women had matching gloves and hats and shoes, oh yes and their purses. Thank you for the feature in your group.

Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, LBA you put it perfectly! Doris Day remained a lady in the characters she played but always stood up for what was rightfully hers. She didn't have to label herself a feminist, but she walked the talk.

Morning Kathy.

With the talk shows and movies coming out today, those good ole times are long gone.  My favorites were Red Skelton and Carol Burnett.

Hi Kathy, these were icons in a glorious past.  Doris and Rock movies are hilarious.  The stereotypes and banter, the often wide-eyed look in Doris, and the even-handed responses by Rock, who is often stymied, are classic.

I used to come home from work in the early 80s to watch reruns of Carol Burnett at about 6:30.  When Conway was on it was a total giggle fest by the cast they just created roaringly hilarious skits.  He was a great foil to everyone else.  We will miss all of them.

I think the last sitcom we watched on schedule was Frasier, also in reruns.  Wait, no, it was King of Queens.  Very innocently hilarious as well.
Thanks Kathy.

Kathy, I don't remember much about these actors. I'd say I know a little about Tim Conway. We saw Carol Burnett Friday night at the performing arts center and she paid tribute to Tim Conway. I barely remember her and mostly via reruns. It was very sweet. Someone asked her how she feels about reality tv. She gave a thumbs down and said it is cheap laughs. Anyone can make people laugh using foul language and doing stupid things. It takes a real artist to make people laugh the way they did in the old days.

Tim Conway was the one that struck me this week.  I used to watch The Carol Burnett Show as a kid.  He was always there to make someone laugh.  That's the way to live.  Don't sweat the small stuff and have fun.

Kathy, There is something about deaths coming in threes. Doris Day was Movie Star!  She transitioned to tv when she got too old for the movies and found a new following. Tim Conway was funnier than all get out. He could crack-up the Pope - any of them.

Beautiful.... really beautiful

Doris Day the girl next door was a a bright spot in America movies even though my favorite was her Alfred Hitchcock movie and her singing the haunting Ksara Song... whatever will be will be

Tim Conway was hilarious and he did that all on the move off the cuff He would make the cast all break down. They don't make them like that anymore

Peggy Lipton... she was just too cool for school... funny how we never had a clue she didnt know it...

thank you for your very lovely post

Peggy Lipton (I LOVED Mod Squad) and Susan Dey were the two actresses I idolized as a young girl.

Tim Conway was one of my favorites....Not only Carol Burnett Show, Mchale's Navy was such a great show too. Rick and I were just watching episodes recently...such a talented and funny man. And so darn cute too!

I completely agree that it's sad that we've lost the innocence of a better time (to me). Isn't it funny how animals are, for the most part, so much easier to like than people? LOL!
