There is no denying Kyrie Irving’s talent. But according to the latest batch of NBA rumors, that may not be enough for some teams to overlook his track record of soap opera-like drama this offseason.
The Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett reports that teams potentially interested in signing Irving when he becomes a free agent this summer is now a “great deal more war. This comes after a rough season for Irving in Boston. Much of the headlines during the regular season surrounded Irving’s inability to click with his new teammates.
Once the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs, Irving’s lack of leadership became the focus. And all this comes after Irving shockingly requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers in an effort to escape LeBron James’ shadow.
“Ask me July 1,” Irving said of his future, back in February. "At the end of the day, I’m going to do what’s best for my career. I spent the last eight years trying to do what everyone else wanted me to do…I don’t owe anybody s***.”
Rumors have Irving linked to the New York Knicks along with fellow future free agent Kevin Durant. However, the Boston Herald did not state if the Knicks were one of the teams having second thoughts.
