Color has dramatic effects on buyers.  Let your sellers in on some Feng Shui secrets.  Color has both positive effects on us. They provide an emotional tone to a room. Colors can excite us, calm us, In feng shui, color controls and assists reflected light.  The combination of color and light should provide the best environment to live in.  Color stimulates and energizes chi’i. Bright colors attract ch’I and make areas more stimulating.

Ceilings should be light colors.  Dark ceilings remind us of rain clouds and may subliminally create a feeling of foreboding.  Dark ceilings also prevent the ch’i from rising.  If ch’i cannot rise and circulate the way it should, your health, wealth and good luck can all be affected.  Additionally, you will want to avoid causing your potential buyers from sensing negativity when viewing your house.

Bedrooms will offer a sense of peace and relaxation if they are decorated in soft colors.  Peach, pink, cream, ivory, tan, and light green are good choices.  Your buyers will want to feel that they can rest easy in the bedroom.  The use of color can signal this to them.  Avoid orange and reds in the bedroom as they are too stimulating.

Blue as a dominant color in any room has the effect of making people quiet and introspective. As buyers view your home, you will want them to be in an outgoing mood and eager to talk about the possibilities your house offers. Blue also unconsciously causes people to feel cold.  This should be avoided at all costs if you live in a colder climate or your potential buyers are senior citizens.

Red and Black are very sensitive colors and should be used sparingly and with great thought as to your intention. Red can be the color of power as well as the color of rage.  It should be used in rooms that involve activity and excitement such as a home gym or recreation room.  Black absorbs all colors and when used with white in a room can cause a feeling of anxiety.   Black makes a statement of intensity and formality and can often work well in a living room, hallway or foyer.

Be careful not to overuse any one color in a room.  If walls, floor and ceiling are shades of the same color the result can be a feeling of restriction which is ultimately depressing.
