Inspirational Thoughts for 5/24/19

by Patricia Feager

"BE NOT AFRAID OF LIFE. BELIEVE THAT LIFE IS

WORTH LIVING, AND YOUR LIFE WILL HELP

CREATE THE FACT"

---WILLIAM JAMES, PHILOSOPHER (1897)

Life can be as exciting or complex as we create it to be. This photo was taken while I was in Tennessee earlier this month where thoughts ran deep at the Rockvale Writers Colony. I find that when I create my own space for an interrupted period of time away from my business, just long enough to think about life, I can see things more clearly.

Too often the feeling of returning home after having had an amazing experience can rapidly fade from awareness when we allow other people's priorities to take precedence over our own. The need to unpack our suitcase isn't the only thing we need to do when we return. Since I got back the need to please, to do, complete, tackle, catch up and get back into the routine can be exhausting.

We only get one chance at this thing called life and that's a fact. As a self-employed owner in business building relationships with people is our most important assets. However, deep down inside is this other person called you with your own needs, wants, and desires. Carrying out the duties for the sake of others is a necessity in business. The fact that in Corporate America a CEO makes thousands or even millions more than the average employee does not escape my attention that regardless of how much the sale of property may be the fee for services in real estate sales is by far less than the minimum or average amount of money earned by a single employee who isn't self-employed. Responsibilities and rewards must be weighed. After all, in this game of life when all is said and done, I guarantee, the number of sales will not be disclosed, nor the number of reduced commissions, or the gathering of all the clients I previously served. As long as I live, it is much, much more than business. It's personal. And that's a fact.

Helping your Montana dreams take root

There can be competing priorities when owning our own business. We need to enjoy our life and also take care of our business, which can sometimes be the same thing, and sometimes not. I almost always come back from a vacation with a new plan for some part of my life. Vacations are necessary, and so is a little re-entry period.

Good morning Patricia. Real estate sales is a choice for sure. No guarantees but your freedom to choose. A personal choice. Enjoy your day!

Hello Patricia - so there goes the plan for a "do over".   The game of life doesn't work that life.

Hi Patricia,

Your blog made me think, as always. I enjoyed reading it and I liked your way of reminding us that we only get one chance at this thing called life. What are things we will choose to do each and every day?!

Hi Patricia! Yes, I'm in the same camp as you - our business, just by virtue of what we are selling/facilitating, is highly personal. Just today, I was discussing how our clients all enjoy meshing together at volunteer events throughout the year. They have so much in common and thoroughly enjoy spending time & sharing their passions with one another.

Love your quote, "We only get one chance at this thing called life and that's a fact."

Great post!  Reflecting from time to time is a good idea.  Thinking ON our business allows us to realize the bonuses in our business versus the daily drudgery.  Hope all is well with you!
