(Remember the scene in Steve Martin's movie, running down the street with a phone book shouting, "I'm somebody now :)
Marchel Peterson & Liz Carter. "Diva" Deb Brooks getting a kiss from Rhett Butler. Photos taken at the Texas active rain gathering in April 2008.
I've read a lot of memes with the writer protesting about having to write about themselves. Honestly I was a little bit hurt that I had never been meme'd...did no one think enough of me? OK, so I've been a little sensitive lately, but I've been on active rain for over a year, I became a part of the AR family on March, 17, 2007. Then I got meme'd twice in one day...somebody loves me, in fact two ladies I call friends, Marchel Peterson , my partner on our group Texas Real Estate, and "Diva" Debra A. Brooks another Texas friend who is also now in the active rains makeover 2 takeover challenge with me too. So I'm all better now, and feel the love.
1. Who is your favorite musical artist?
I am well rounded in that department, or either I can't make up my mind...let's go with well rounded! I love music everything from rock n roll-country-blues/jazz-to opera. We went on a dive trip once to the BVI's and chartered our own sailboat with another couple, one of my best trips ever. We wore out Jimmy Buffett, Eric Clapton and Tina Turner. Then there is Elvis and Aratha Franklin, gotta have some Willie Nelson too. Pavarotti, what can you say maybe the best voice of all times. I love the song," Time To Say Goodbye" sung by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman, and that's the one I picked to put on my meme, so turn up the volume and enjoy.
2. Who is your favorite artist?
My taste are varied there also, the Impressionist rank at the top. I spent an afternoon at the Met in NY just in the Impressionist room, Pissarro, Monet. Cezanne. While in Paris I spent a day at the Louvre (you need weeks), but I preferred the smaller Musee d' Orsay where I enjoyed another full day, and was all by myself. Bill, who is not an art fan and choose to go to Normandy, it was a delightful day, and since no one was with me I could stay as long or short as I wanted in front of a masterpiece. I also love Andrew Wyeth, the girl lying on the hillside, "Christina's World". "Master Bedroom", the one with the dog on the bed and the open window is another favorite. The first time I snorkeled in Cozumel (and got hooked on the wonders of the ocean in 1978); I thought it was like God had taken a paint brush down and hand painted all the beautiful tropical fish. The colors and designs are simply breathtaking to me. My passion has been scuba diving even since, and that is me in the picture on AR holding the sold sign. Bill took it while we were on a dive trip in Roatan, Honduras.
3. Who is your favorite blogger?
I'll start with the three mischievous musketeers, Jason Crouch, Adam Waldman , and Paul Slaybaugh fortheir wit, humor and writing skills. Hey guys, why don't you "Jack" this blog? I want 1,000 comments too:). Bryant Tutas Broker, who has been called "the voice of reason", and his hysterical Blogging Bertha. "Diva" Debra A. Brooks is always entertaining, varied and very skilled. Marchel Peterson can make you feel like you have "been there" with her localism post and makes market reports entertaining. Lenn Harley the rock of real estate always tells it like it is and gives great advice. I have the utmost respect and enjoy these three icons of Active Rain'sMissy Caulk ,Celeste "SALLY" Cheeseman and my friend GenaRiede who was one of my first "meetings on the rain". The ever insightful and knowledgeable Gary Woltal . Nestor & Katerina Gasset for sharing their strong faith in God, caring, helpful tutorials on everything, and always a pleasure to read posts. Five of the nicest, talented and down to earth people on the rain, Brian Block ,Mara Hawks, Duane Marlink and Melissa Grant, Ricki Eichler . I enjoy reading, love to "get lost" in a great book, learn, laugh and lots of folks on AR do that for me too. Not enough room to get all my favorites in here, you know who you are forgive me, but I'm out of room and I'm sure everyone has stopped reading by now J .I have discovered I also enjoy writing, and as you can see have a hard time being brief. You all have been crowned...Paul it looks smashing on you :).
4. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them?
Johnny Carson, he could crack me up just with one of his looks. Carson could express more with his eyes than anyone I've ever known or saw. Funny, now that man was hysterical and a class act too. Plus he had interviewed the world, so I would not only be able to laugh my a__ off, but would get the skinny on all the wonderful and terrible people he interview all those years. When he went off the air I had a hard time learning to go to sleep without Carson in my bedroom.
Another one would have been Mark Twain, the great American humorist/writer. Brilliant!
5. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Something with animals, I would bring home strays all the time. Mother let me keep some, with the promise I would take care of it...she always ended up doing all the work. Mama was an easy touch when it came to animals she loved them too. One time we nursed a Canary after it had gotten out of its cage and ran into something. Daddy brought home some baby Armadillos, and we fed them with an eye dropper, but they only made it a couple of days. I was the only kid in school with a "pet" Armadillo for a couple of days though. No e-mails, the mom got killed while they were digging on a site and uncovered the bunch of Armadillos
6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia you know?
Pigeons' produce milk to feed their young and it's richer than any other milk. As with most birds they mate for life also. One more, I love trivia, Mark Twain's famous quote, "The report of my death was greatly exaggerated", is not accurate, he wrote, "This report of my death was an exaggeration", in May of 1897.
7. If you could live in any point in history what would it be and why?
My dog's name is Rhett Butler, if that gives you a clue. I envision myself sipping mint juleps' while swinging on the veranda under towing magnolias and oaks on a warm summer day at my Southern Plantation, Tara. Gone With the Wind, early era, life was idyllic, no worries, horseback riding through the countryside, and a big party in the music room that evening. Complete with waltzes, and you had a dance card, and wore a stunning gown, romance was in the air. Life was sweet, conversations lively, card games in the evening by a roaring fire, or curled up with a good book in the library.
8. What is the most interesting job you have ever held?
A bartender, what a perfect job toprepare you to become a Realtor. You learn to listen, and you meet some strange people, a lot like Real Estate...kidding.
A super 8 meme torch is supposed to be passed to eight other bloggers I'm told, so guess we will all be reading lots about our fellow bloggers for some time now J...
Liz - I got me-me'd a couple days ago and haven't had a chance to see what it was all about. I didn't realize it was such an honor to get me-me'd...lol, and here you are hoping you'd get me-me'd! I guess I'll have to take a look at it.
Great meme. That photo of Johnny Carson looks strangely like our very own Carnac. LOL! You're the second meme I read that was a bartender. The other was a daytime bartender.
I have more to say, but, I'll worry about it tomorrow...
LIZ - Great job on your meme. I'm proud to be the first of the "mischievous musketeers" to arrive. I can't believe that you hadn't been tagged before. I would have added you to my list. Anyway, thanks for sharing this. I can honestly say that you are the first person that I've ever known to have a pet armadillo (even for a little while). By the way, I left a challenge on Slaybaugh's reluctant meme, and thought that you would be the one to crack the code. Your photo on that post was awesome.
Don't spend too much time over there though. You need to bring the party over here to get the 1000 comments. If you want to lure in the girls, tell them that the former bartender is serving drinks over here. I've never seen any them able to resist blogatinis. Not saying that they have a problem....but........
Liz, a fantastic MeMe. I've been wanting to learn to scuba dive for a long time but never took the opportunity yet. I've been snorkeling many times, but my friends who do scuba dive have likened the difference to "snorkeling is like going to the zoo; scuba diving is like going on safari!" Thanks for the compliment on including me on your list of favorite bloggers.
Yes we do love you-you!! Great meme! I considered Rhett for my puppy that we are getting this summer but was vetoed by my 11 year old... he's never seen Gone With the Wind! I've already been tagged... did last week! I LOVED Johnny Carson too! He was the perfect straight man! Thanks for letting us learn all about you!
Good morning dear Liz, What a great Meme and thank you for the crown. I love emaralds!!!:) Mark Twain is one of my favorites, what an incredible man he was. I somehow knew you loved Tara, with Rhett Butler who could not! As for the song, it gives me goosebumps. How beautiful, just like you. :)
Liz, thought that was you scuba diving but wasn't sure. I too, love to scuba but have only had the opportunity twice. I love looking at Rhett as he reminds me of little Trixie who was a rare red and 4 lbs.
Many of your favorites, are mine as well. I'll have to think hard to keep up with your great Meme. You did a fabulous job. Sorry it took so long for you to share about yourself but glad it finally happened.
Sweet sassy molassy, Liz. You tagged me after reading the one I just wrote? I think that's illegal or something. At the very least it's frowned upon by ... me. Like Adam, I'm having a hard time believing this is your first tag. Perhaps I will add to that tally and tag you right back ;) Of course, that assumes I will ever produce this new meme. Very dubious. Now I am going to completely cast away the remaining shred of street cred that I have and admit to adoring the song you selected. It often illicits a tear. Great job on this, Liz.
Liz, great meme. Thanks for the mention, I am an animal lover too, but with 4 dogs, I've told the kids NO MORE.
My dog that passed was Reba. If they gives you any indication of what I like.
Liz, I LOVED your meme. I would LOVE to meet Mark Twain, a lady after my own heart. Have you read his travel books? The ones where he was travaeling in Europe. How fun!!
What a very grand MeMe, you have written for all to read.
Seeing Mark Twain was and I am from the State of Missouri. I'll give ya a piece of interesting trivia about him. He joined and deserted the Confederate Army after 2 week's. I have copys of his books. Mark Twain was a very brilliant writer and humorist, but a very poor business man. Keeped on losing his money. I have been to and in the cave he made famous in his book about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. In Honnibal, it's not to far from my home town of Moberly, Mo.
Copyright- They always talk handsomely about the literature of the land, And in the midst of their enthusiasm they turn around and do what they can to discourage it. A speech gave in Congress, 1906.
Whenever a copyright low is to be made or altered, then the idiots assemble. Mark Twain's notebook. 1902-1903
Liz - We enjoyed reading your MeMe. It was nice to see you used a couple pics from the gathering. Active Rain has certainly given us the opportunity to share with each other; glad someone finally MeMe'ed you. BWP
Thanks all my AR friends...it was fun doing this, sharing a small slice of me with all of you!
I'm off to the hospital...we have a "birthing in progress", awaiting the arrival of my fourth great-great nephews/niece...Mr. Conner Thomas Murray will be here anytime :). Liz
I am on the phone with you right now. This has been a difficult week and you know what I mean. I hope you are doing so well! I am so glad to call you my friend. I will also be glad that this contest is over...although I am enjoying it too. We are just getting tired. I'm about to sign out and watch a soap opera! I'm that tired. You are very patient and loving. Thank you for your good nature and take care of yourself! Hugs, Deb
Dale, he is the most handsome beautiful baby ever born, dark curly hair, ivory skin (right off the bat)...PREFECTION! Of course there will be a blog soon announcing his arrival :). Liz
Deb Honey you are great, you have the energy of a teenager, and the heart of an old soul. Hugs Liz
Very nice me'me. As the proud mom of a poodle myself, I was glad to hear that Rhett was actually your poodle. There is another lady on AR that shows poodles, and when I saw him in the pictures, I thought it might have been her dog. (I need more caffiene as I've temporarily drawn a blank on her name.)
I used to raise pigeons back when I was a kid....I had completely forgotten about pigeon milk. hmm.
You rasied pigeons when you were a kid? Now that is cool, I love those little guys, and would love to know more about them. I have a couple pair at my lake house the kind with the big fan tail, and they are always together. I saw three together the other day, and was wondering if the one had lost their mate? Liz
One of my favorite things to do is visit southern plantation homes. I think we are drawn to things like that for a reason. I enjoyed learning about you!
Hi Liz, just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about the me'me. I just keep putting it off until I can figure out what to say. Part of it has a surprise for you. :) That is the only part I have figured out. lol I hope you are having a really productive week.
Liz, I have finally completed me meme....sort of... Because of you, it took me a month to figure out how I wanted to pull it off. You were my inspiration. For better or worse, I did it for you.
I sincerely believe that you became popular so fast that most people assumed that you had been meme'd to death and would have really grumbled. Sometimes it takes only one respected person's grumbling to make a person almost terrified to meme someone that they would like to know more about.
So, what I'm trying to say is that I've used one of my other abilities to tag to tag you again. :) And, I've presented you with a buffet to choose from.
wow, I'm speechless! Thank you and I certainly did not know you felt this way about me, or that anyone did :). My feelings were hurt a little bit that no one had ever tagged me for a meme and it never crossed my mind that the reason is what you've said,, but you have kissed my boo boo and made it all better with your very kind worlds. We all need a pat on the back, a hug, a kind word, its just a basic human need, and you've made my day! :)
I think you are awesome, you write a ton of great post, and you never "slack" you always give 100% too.
I'm excited to read your meme and learn more about you. Liz
Awe...thanks. I added a link to one of my former meme's on the other post. It will give you an example of that style and you'll learn a little more about me maybe... I'm looking forward to your next meme.

Liz - I got me-me'd a couple days ago and haven't had a chance to see what it was all about. I didn't realize it was such an honor to get me-me'd...lol, and here you are hoping you'd get me-me'd! I guess I'll have to take a look at it.
By the way, you did a really nice job!
