Back Up the Bus. It's on My Foot!
This was a new one to me.....
With our competitive market, multiple offers are becoming the norm, especially with houses that are priced according to the comparables, are in great condition, and are located where the buyers want to be. So, when a recent listing went on market and multiple offers were presented, I got the thrill of helping the sellers sort through the details and then the part of our business that is a necessity but is the tougher part: delivering the news to the Realtors whose clients’ offers were rejected. Much as I try to be professional, challenges can arise based on the other agents’ responses. Most are gracious, thankful for a swift update, and fully understand that there can only be one winner. The occasional one stands out though who has to try to strongarm the situation. This last multiple offer presented one such situation. After I hung up the phone, I got a call from my sister. She sensed my mood was off and I said it was due to another Realtor’s unrealistic expectation after being informed his client’s offer was rejected. My sister’s response? “Back up the bus! It’s on my foot!” I have NO idea where she came up with that one, but boy, was it accurate.
How often do we do that to one another in this business? We’re frustrated because we don’t get the response we want from the other side, but is a bruising attitude the way to force the situation to work to our client’s advantage? Not in my experience.
An important thing to remember is we need to leave the pathways open so that the next time we have a potential transaction, it will be welcomed. Start your engines, Realtors, but keep your bus moving forward!
