Servant leadership is based on humility.

That's what Gary Keller from my company  has taught me in the past

To most Realtors, if they really knew anything about humility, they wouldn't like it.  That's why so few of us are humble. Quite often it means doing what you don't want to do.  Sometimes it means as simple as helping someone to your best of your ability. .while he or she is threatening to complain to your broker because they feel you aren't doing enough to sell their home.

But the hardest thing to overcome to be humble is  killing the egotistical, self-centered person inside all of us who wants to be comforted, petted and admired. . . . because that's what our parents did when we were in Kindergarten and as adults. . we are still yearning of that attention.

A good leader is NOT the  one that speaks the loudest, is NOT the one that has the most facts, is NOT the one that is the most popular. .and certainly not the one that feels a sense of entitlement (ie Hillary Clinton)

A good leader is the one that knows being servient when no one is looking. . is the only way to gain the respect you need to do your job effectively.

A good leader earns his position and they wll allways come to your level

. .when they speak to you. .

as you think to yourself. .

I got to follow this person. . . he/she makes me feel like a winner!

After all. .if your clients or co-workers don't respect you. . . then you definetely don't deserve to be their leader.

Yea, it's not easy being humble when you're so darn good looking too....lol... I just couldn't resist.

Fernando, serving people well means listening to them, not telling them about yourself.

You bet Kevin...Cute is good....One of our competitors said our picture was sooo cute, HE would buy a house from us !  Respect is earned.,,you earn it every day in every way or you don't earn it all, that is choice we make.

GK is a master at servant leadership!  I get the chance to hear him regularly here in Austin (yes I consider myself blessed as a result!).  And when you consider the mantra that we are all called to follow in NAR ethics, we should always be putting the client first.  I am always amazed at the agents that I work with that are so self-focused that it is easy to tell they are operating on their own and NOT under direction of their client.  Yesterday one called my office and my wife told him that we needed him to get with his client and propose ...*details don't matter here*... His response was, "Well I know what they will say to that, it is ..."  To which my wife retorted, "Don't you think you should ask them before you answer for them?"  Man, that made him soooo mad!  We laughed about it afterward, but the reality is that when an agent makes choices for their client, they put themselves in such a BAD position.  Do that long enough and you will be sued or lose your license.  Servant leadership is the model that we must all strive to attain most effectively every day!  Thanks for this reminder!
