Blogging Wins and Losses for the Week

By
Industry Observer with About Social Anxiety

Blogging is a lot like what I imagine surfing would be like. Some days you catch a few amazing waves and everything comes together, and other days it feels like you can't catch a break. This week has been filled with ups and downs for my blogging business, so I thought I'd chat a bit about that. For those who are just tuning in, I've been taking a course called Elite Blog Academy since March, although I've had my blog since September 2017.

First let's talk about the wins!

Over 200 Sessions in a Day

This happened to me once before but this time it seemed effortless as I easily glided over 200 sessions in a day. My goal is to reach 25,000 sessions in a month so that I can apply to Mediavine. At the moment I had two ad networks on my site called Media.net and Infolinks, and I'm making less than a couple dollars a month between the two. Nothing to write home about!

Launched a Teachable Product

So, I've had a cognitive-behavioral workbook for social anxiety as a freebie on my site for a long time. In the course I am taking, it was mentioned that your freebies should be something that are easy for your readers to consume. Otherwise, they just won't get used. Seeing as my workbook is 38 pages long, I realized that it was not the ideal freebie. So what I did is pull a few pages from the workbook to use as my freebie, and instead put the workbook on Teachable as a paid product. My plan is to (hopefully soon) turn this into a "tripwire" product that I sell to those who sign up for my freebie. Meanwhile, the freebie is available from pretty much any page on my site such as this one I recently wrote about the best vitamins for anxiety.

Now, let's talk about the losses :(

Pinterest Suspension

I'd heard of others being suspended on Pinterest but it hadn't happened to me yet. That all changed this week! I got the email from Pinterest a couple of days ago that my account was suspended. I've sent in an email to appeal the suspension but so far have not heard anything back. I've been told I should keep emailing until I get the account back, so that is what I will do. Quite honestly, it's been a bit freeing not to have to worry about posting to Pinterest. Even though I've been using Tailwind to automate the posting process and it only took an hour a week or so, it's just not something that I enjoy. (If you'd like a free month of Tailwind you can use my referral link).

Zero Amazon Revenue

Yes, you read that right. Although I never had much revenue at all from Amazon, it's looking like I will have zero for the month of May. I've tried to write more articles about books that my readers might find helpful, such as this list of the Top 10 Social Skills Books. However, that hasn't translated into purchases. On a positive note, I think it's mostly because I just don't have enough people visiting my site yet. I'm probably at around 5000 sessions month now, give or take, and I know that I'll need to grow that much higher if I want to see progress on all fronts.

There you have it! I've yet to fully decide if I'm going to post about blogging here each week, but it seems like the most natural topic since I normally write about mental health. I do also dabble in real estate, as I wrote about previously, so I'm sure that will pop up from time to time. At the moment I'm working on how to refinance property in order to buy another investment property, as well as giving some thought to how to build a house on a property that we own in Costa Rica. I'd love to have it as a vacation spot as well as another rental. Til next time!

Hey, it's Smriti. Your article is a good one. I must say not everybody knows how to write blogs and make them look professional. Being a law student I always look for data points like charts, analysis in articles. Yours seems to give justice to the topic. My personal style includes a lot of graphs, numbers and informative videos. I write on

www.successmantra.com for law related exams.
