Motivational Monday...Stop Those Knee-Jerk Reactions
Sadly, I have to plead guilty to this. Just Sunday morning we had just started our walk. There on one of the ponds was a couple in a rowboat kissing.
It was 7:30 on a Sunday morning!!! Good grief, I thought. Get a room!
It was at that point that Larry pointed to the photographer on the dock taking photos of them. He was directing them to row to another location.
It’s so easy to jump to conclusions when we see, read, or hear something. Our adrenalin kicks in and our minds and mouths react before we’ve had the chance to take a minute to assess what is happening.
As a stager, I know that I’ve assumed certain things when speaking to a client over the phone before meeting them.
The great retailer, Stanley Marcus, taught his salespeople not to assume that the man walking in with jeans and cowboy boots couldn’t afford to shop at Neiman Marcus. In fact, this new, very wealthy oilman could probably buy the whole store.
Jumping to conclusions and having knee-jerk reactions are things I’m constantly working on.
People who jump to conclusions rarely alight on them. Philip Guedalla
