Throwback Thursday: Sunday In Bologna!

One of our favorite cities in Italy is Bologna.  It is the capital of the Emilia Romagna region and is known for its great cuisine. The region is home to the production of Parmigiano Reggiano, balsamic vinegar, and prosciutto.  They are also known for their lasagna and their bolognese meat sauce.

We arrived via the fast train (30mns) on a rainy day in Bologna from Florence.  The restaurant is located on a tiny street (more like an alley) and down steep steps.  This osteria has been in existence since 1600, it began as a winery with a couple of tables. They later expanded the restaurant into the wine cave!

When we first sat down, the place was empty.  By the time we ordered our wine and first course, the place was full and buzzing...The meal, the wine was worth the trek, and happily sated we returned to Florence...

When I look at that super modern train, I wonder why California has so many obstacles to approving, funding and building a similar system in our state.  Europe has been doing it forever!

Good morning, Alexandra and Ron - like Brian England your post whets my appetite but unlike Brian I doubt I will find a bit of Bologna in my kitchen right now.  And that's definitely no baloney.

Bologna is on our schedule for our May trip to Italy. We have 17 days planned this year in Spain and Portugal so we will post about that trip.

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI my advice is don't wait for someday, just do it.  We have never regretted the many times we have traveled, and we are planning to do that again sooner than later.  A

Myrl Jeffcoat We love those trains, we took the train from Milan to Florence.  It was there in an hour, and its max speed is 300 kilometers per hour or 186 mph... I have no idea why we do not have one in CA.   The State of California needs a formal audit to see where the fat is...fat chance of that happening...too many mouths at the government feed bucket.  LOL A

I'm smiling at your comment #14 to Kevin May, "Bologna is for foodies."  Somehow, I'm getting a mental image of a bologna sandwich. . .I don't know what that says about me!

Hi Alexandra... Bologna is one city I've never visited... but if/when I have a chance to that restaurant will definitely be on my list. I love train travel... have not done a fast train in Europe, but have in Japan... an awesome experience.
