One of our favorite cities in Italy is Bologna. It is the capital of the Emilia Romagna region and is known for its great cuisine. The region is home to the production of Parmigiano Reggiano, balsamic vinegar, and prosciutto. They are also known for their lasagna and their bolognese meat sauce.
We arrived via the fast train (30mns) on a rainy day in Bologna from Florence. The restaurant is located on a tiny street (more like an alley) and down steep steps. This osteria has been in existence since 1600, it began as a winery with a couple of tables. They later expanded the restaurant into the wine cave!
When we first sat down, the place was empty. By the time we ordered our wine and first course, the place was full and buzzing...The meal, the wine was worth the trek, and happily sated we returned to Florence...
